In a volatile start to the week, digital asset markets staged a notable rebound after facing severe downward pressure in early dealings. The benchmark digital coin briefly breached the critical $80,000 mark to the downside during Monday's Asian trading session. The initial slump was driven by portfolio de-risking ahead of key central bank policy deliberations and a parallel retreat across technology equities in the United States. However, aggressive dip-buying quickly emerged, pushing the price up 2.07% to $84,459.46, lifting its aggregate market capitalisation to $1.70 trillion.
Broad Gains Across Major Alternative Tokens
The swift revival in the primary digital asset injected momentum into the wider alternative token ecosystem. Ethereum, the second-largest blockchain network by market footprint, climbed 1.79% to change hands at $2,490.55. Outperforming the top tier, XRP led the leaderboard among the ten largest cryptocurrencies, advancing 3.96% to settle near $1.39.
Other major network tokens participated in the recovery. BNB gained 1.22% to touch $748.57, while Solana registered a 1.26% rise to reach $108.00. Within the mid-cap segment, TRON inched higher by 0.12% to $0.3311. Hyperliquid advanced 0.36% to stand at $81.02, and WhiteBIT Coin booked an appreciation of 1.97% to trade around $82.52. Meanwhile, pegged digital assets preserved their valuation stability: Tether was quoted at $0.9991 with a 0.03% uptick, and USD Coin traded securely at $0.9998.
Federal Reserve Meeting and Policy Guidance
Looking ahead, market participants are directing their attention toward three pivotal macroeconomic drivers. The most immediate catalyst is the Federal Reserve interest rate decision scheduled for October 28. While market consensus widely anticipates monetary authorities will keep benchmark rates unchanged at this meeting, traders have priced in a pronounced likelihood of a subsequent rate increase in December. Any hawkish messaging from policymakers could reignite liquidation pressures across speculative asset classes.
Weighing in on the macro environment, Avinash Shekhar, Co-Founder and CEO of Pi42, noted: "The Fed's decision will be particularly important because interest rates influence the cost of capital and the attractiveness of holding different assets. If the central bank maintains rates as markets currently expect, attention will shift to its forward guidance and any signals on the timing of future easing. Geopolitical uncertainty, particularly tensions involving the US and Iran, remains another factor that could influence sentiment in the near term."
Inflation Print and Borrowing Costs
The second critical data point on the calendar is the release of fresh United States inflation metrics on October 29. A higher-than-projected inflation reading would reinforce the central bank's stance of keeping benchmark borrowing costs elevated for an extended horizon. Sustained high interest rates elevate the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding digital assets, making portfolio managers cautious about committing speculative capital before the figures are published.
Crude Spikes, Tech Selloff, and Geopolitical Risks
The third interconnected set of pressures stems from commodity markets and international conflict. Brent crude is presently trading near $115 per barrel amid elevated tensions between the United States and Iran. Rather than behaving as an uncorrelated hedge or a digital haven, cryptocurrencies have continued to trade alongside conventional risk-sensitive assets. A persistent rally in energy prices or renewed declines across high-valuation tech shares could pull crypto valuations lower once more, whereas tangible signs of diplomatic de-escalation could reinforce the current recovery attempt.
Technical Levels Dictate Market Health
From an intraday chart structure perspective, clear price boundaries remain defined. Purvang Mashru, Lead Analyst at BitDelta India, observed: "On the charts, Bitcoin's reference support levels are near $79,745 and $79,145, while resistance is around $80,000 to $80,925. Continued weakness below the $80,000 would keep the recovery unconfirmed." Market participants are watching to see if trading volume can sustain pricing above these critical resistance zones.
