Karnataka is bracing for a significant shift in weather conditions as the India Meteorological Department has issued strong warnings regarding thunderstorms, lightning, and powerful surface winds across the coastal, north interior, and south interior regions over the upcoming 24-hour period. The advisory was officially announced on August 31, highlighting that heavy rainfall activity is anticipated to pick up pace starting from September 1, before weather conditions are projected to gradually ease out beginning September 2.
Coastal Districts Under Yellow Alert
The weather across the coastal belt, specifically in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada districts, is expected to experience light to moderate rainfall accompanied by sustained winds blowing at speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour across most locations. In response to these developing atmospheric conditions, authorities have placed the entire area under an official IMD yellow alert effective until September 1.
Interior Regions Face High Speed Winds
The north interior belt of the state is anticipated to encounter even stronger atmospheric activity. According to meteorological forecasts, a few places across Bagalkote, Belagavi, Bidar, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapura, and Yadgir districts are likely to witness high-speed winds ranging between 40 and 50 kilometers per hour, alongside spells of light to moderate rain. Meanwhile, Ballari district located in the south interior and Malnad region is similarly expected to see light to moderate showers coupled with sustained winds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour.
Temperature Variations Across The State
Temperature data recorded for the 24-hour duration ending at 8:30 AM on August 31 reveals that Bagalkote registered the highest maximum temperature in the state at 30.3 degrees Celsius, closely followed by Bidar at 30.2 degrees Celsius and Dakshin Kannada at 30.1 degrees Celsius. On the cooler end of the spectrum, Chamarajanagara recorded the lowest maximum temperature at 29.2 degrees Celsius. Minimum temperatures across the state fluctuated from a chilly low of 18.9 degrees Celsius in Kalaburagi to a high of 23.1 degrees Celsius in Kodagu, with several other districts including Chikkaballapura, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, and Mandya reporting minimums comfortably within the seasonal 20 to 22 degrees Celsius range.
Bengaluru Weather Outlook
The weather in Bengaluru is also anticipated to be directly influenced by the broader unstable atmospheric pattern prevailing over Karnataka. The capital city is likely to remain under overcast skies with persistent chances of rain and thundershowers, particularly as overall rainfall activity intensifies around September 1.
