LPG Customers Who Skip e-KYC Could End Up Paying Nearly Double For Cylinders

Indane, HP Gas and Bharat Gas customers who missed the August 16, 2026 e-KYC deadline risk supply disruptions and commercial pricing on domestic cylinders, even as the cut-off has now been pushed to August 23.

If you hold an LPG connection with Indane Gas, HP Gas or Bharat Gas and missed the August 16, 2026 e-KYC deadline, you now have a fresh date to complete it, but the confusion over what happens in the meantime hasn't gone away.

Your Connection Won't Be Cancelled, But It Could Be Suspended

The good news is that simply missing the e-KYC deadline will not get your gas connection cancelled outright. However, the chance of a temporary suspension is very real. BPCL had already warned its Bharat Gas customers that failing to complete e-KYC could lead to their LPG connection being temporarily suspended.

Are Refills Already Being Refused?

There is no official word yet on whether customers can continue refilling their LPG cylinders after missing the August 16 deadline. But reports have indicated that thousands of customers are currently unable to get their cylinders refilled. LPG distributors across several states say customers are showing up for refills, but are being turned away because their e-KYC is incomplete, a problem that was surfacing even before the deadline arrived. So if you are struggling to get a refill, incomplete e-KYC could well be the reason. That said, customers who have already completed their e-KYC and are still facing the same issue should file a complaint with their respective gas provider to find out what is going wrong. This impact applies to Indane Gas, HP Gas and Bharat Gas customers alike who had not finished their e-KYC by August 16.

What Indian Oil Told Its Customers

An earlier message sent by Indian Oil reminded customers that e-KYC is required to receive LPG cylinders at domestic rates, and noted that many had still not completed it despite repeated reminders. Customers were told they could do their e-KYC from home through the IndianOil ONE App, or at their distributor, or through the delivery personnel. The message carried a clear warning: "Failure to do e-KYC by 16.08.26 would make you ineligible for cylinders at domestic rates till e-KYC is completed."

Could You Be Charged Commercial Rates?

The All India LPG Distributors Federation had earlier said that customers who failed to complete e-KYC before the deadline might end up paying commercial rates on their domestic LPG cylinders. However, none of Indian Oil, BPCL or HPCL has clarified what the revised pricing would actually look like for customers who miss e-KYC, so this cannot be confirmed with certainty.

The Gap Between Domestic And Commercial Prices

Still, the current numbers give a sense of what is at stake. The market price for a domestic Indane Gas LPG cylinder of 14.2 Kg currently stands at Rs 942 in Delhi, Rs 968 in Kolkata, Rs 941.50 in Mumbai and Rs 957.50 in Chennai. PMUY beneficiaries get a Rs 300 subsidy on their 14.2 Kg cylinders, which brings the paying amount down to roughly Rs 642 in Delhi, Rs 668 in Kolkata, Rs 641.5 in Mumbai and Rs 657.50 in Chennai. Commercial LPG cylinder rates for August, by contrast, stand at Rs 2,738 in Delhi, Rs 2,691.50 in Mumbai, Rs 2,872.50 in Kolkata and Rs 2,906 in Chennai. If a customer becomes ineligible for domestic rates due to missing e-KYC and commercial pricing is applied instead, that works out to roughly Rs 1,796 extra on a single cylinder in Delhi alone (Rs 2,738 minus Rs 942). A similarly wide gap could apply across other states too. It's worth noting that these figures are based on current reports and reasonable estimates rather than any official confirmation, so it is best to check directly with your LPG distributor or oil company for the latest updates.

You Can Still Complete Your e-KYC

The biometric Aadhaar authentication process has not been banned once the deadline passes. Customers can still go ahead and complete their e-KYC, though any delay could mean facing the disruptions described above in the meantime.

New Deadline: August 23

The e-KYC deadline for LPG cylinders has now been pushed to August 23. Even so, many customers are struggling to complete the mandatory process because of server glitches, with an unusually heavy rush of people trying to get it done at once.

What You Should Do Now

If you haven't completed your e-KYC yet, get it done as soon as possible through the IndianOil ONE App, your nearest distributor, or the delivery personnel who bring your cylinder. If server issues are holding up the process, keep trying and stay in touch with your distributor in the meantime. And if you've already completed your e-KYC but are still facing refill trouble, don't wait, file a complaint with your gas provider right away.
