Indian bullion markets witnessed a notable resurgence in gold and silver prices just ahead of the festive season, driven by a softer US dollar and retreating Treasury yields that restored momentum to non-yielding assets. Across physical outlets and futures exchanges on Friday, precious metals pushed higher across all standard purity grades, reversing a brief period of consolidation and making purchases costlier for retail consumers and jewelers alike.
Domestic Gold Rates Across Different Purities
The revised domestic rate sheet reflected higher pricing across the board. The benchmark 24-karat gold climbed by Rs 710, or roughly 0.47 percent, reaching Rs 1,51,420 per 10 grams compared to the prior trading session. Buyers sourcing in bulk quantities faced a higher bill, with 100 grams of 24-karat gold priced at Rs 15,14,200, representing an absolute increase of Rs 7,100 over Friday.
For 22-karat gold, the traditional favorite for household jewelry crafting, the rate advanced by Rs 650 to sit at Rs 1,38,800 per 10 grams. In 100-gram denominations, the 22-karat grade traded at Rs 13,88,000, higher by Rs 6,500. Jewelers experienced elevated intake costs right as retail demand typically accelerates before festive celebrations.
The lighter 18-karat gold category, frequently chosen for modern and lightweight ornaments, registered a price increase of Rs 540 to stand at Rs 1,13,570 per 10 grams. For a 100-gram purchase, the quotation worked out to Rs 11,35,700, marking an addition of Rs 5,400 from the prior close.
Investors tracking sovereign weightings or 8-gram units also witnessed an upward revision. An 8-gram sovereign of 24-karat gold stood at approximately Rs 1,21,136, whereas the equivalent 8-gram quantity of 22-karat gold rose to around Rs 1,11,040.
Four-Session Recovery Rebounds by 1.5 Percent
Precious metals have experienced pronounced volatility over recent trading days as market participants constantly balanced swings in currency valuations, energy prices, sovereign debt yields, and interest rate guidance. The extent of the current recovery becomes clear when viewing the price action since the start of the week.
On October 6, 24-karat gold traded near Rs 1,49,180 per 10 grams. Standing at Rs 1,51,420 today, the yellow metal has added roughly Rs 2,240, logging a gain of approximately 1.5 percent across just four trading sessions. On the domestic derivatives front, the Multi Commodity Exchange witnessed an identical turnaround. Gold futures, which had dropped toward the Rs 1.49 lakh threshold earlier in the week, successfully climbed back above the Rs 1.51 lakh mark as domestic buyers stepped in.
Silver Tracks Upward with Solid Global Gains
White metal prices advanced in tandem with gold. In overseas markets, spot silver surged by roughly 2 percent to trade around $60.40 per ounce, finding buyers as broad industrial and investment demand held firm. On the Indian physical market, the silver rate climbed to approximately Rs 2,35,000 per kilogram, mirroring the global momentum and raising acquisition costs for silverware and fabrication units.
Global Market Dynamics and Treasury Yields
In international trade, spot gold hovered near $4,174.78 per ounce on Friday, recovering from $4,118.63 recorded in the preceding session. Prices even pushed momentarily past the $4,200 per ounce barrier before trimming gains. That advance drew fuel from a weakening greenback, cooling government debt yields, and softer crude oil prices. Robust investor bidding at the latest 30-year US Treasury auction proved vital in easing upward pressure on long-duration yields, which in turn bolstered the appeal of non-yielding bullion.
Nonetheless, gold settling below $4,180 per ounce signaled that upward traction remains cautious. Highlighting these underlying crosscurrents, Kaynat Chainwala, Associate Vice President of Commodity Research at Kotak Neo, pointed out that policy expectations continue to cap any runaway rally. Chainwala explained that upside momentum remains delicate because central bankers have signaled that monetary tightening could persist to steer inflation toward target levels.
Inflation Readings and Geopolitical Developments Ahead
According to Chainwala, lingering possibilities of another interest rate increase continue to restrict sustained rallies, leaving traders extremely sensitive to upcoming macro releases and shifts in monetary policy forecasts. In the immediate term, gold and silver are likely to consolidate within well-defined ranges, while movements in the dollar and Treasury yields set trading direction.
Market participants are now concentrating their attention on the upcoming US Consumer Price Index figures scheduled for release on October 14. That inflation report is viewed as a crucial benchmark for the path of future policy decisions. Without a definitive macro reversal in government yields and the US dollar, or a major diplomatic breakthrough regarding the US-Iran geopolitical backdrop, any extended price run in gold and silver remains capped.
