Dimapur Police have issued a comprehensive set of guidelines to regulate the usage of fireworks during the upcoming festive season, setting fixed time slots for bursting crackers across the districts of Dimapur, Chumoukedima, and Niuland.
The advisory, released on Wednesday by the Commissioner of Police in Dimapur, calls upon residents to celebrate responsibly by embracing eco-friendly practices aimed at lowering both noise pollution and air pollution levels in the region. According to the directive, the bursting of permitted fireworks will be strictly restricted to the hours between 8 pm and 10 pm during Diwali and Gurpurab. Meanwhile, celebrations on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve will permit fireworks for a much shorter window, running from 11:55 pm to 12:30 am.
Strict prohibitions have been put in place regarding silence zones, banning fireworks entirely within a 100-metre radius of hospitals, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, courts, and religious locations. Furthermore, the advisory outlaws any fireworks that generate noise levels surpassing 125 dB(A) or 145 dB(C) peak when measured four metres away from the exact point of the blast.
In an effort to control digital retail channels, e-commerce platforms and online marketplaces have received explicit directives prohibiting them from processing orders or executing deliveries of firecrackers within the specified jurisdictional boundaries. The online distribution of prohibited items will attract strict legal action under applicable laws.
The retail trade of permitted green crackers will be restricted exclusively to licensed vendors who hold valid official permits. To limit individual firecracker usage within densely populated residential neighborhoods, authorities have encouraged citizens to take part in organized community fireworks displays hosted at designated open grounds selected by the local administration.
Station officers and precinct commanders have been ordered by the Commissioner of Police to maintain rigorous vigilance, perform routine inspections of neighborhood markets, and guarantee full compliance with the newly established mandates. Law enforcement officials have warned that violators will face penalties under the law, while urging the public to place top priority on safety, public health, and environmental preservation throughout the celebrations.
