According to meteorological office predictions, several urban centers including Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad are expected to experience decent spells of rainfall through Tuesday.
IMD Issues Yellow Alert and Forecast
The India Meteorological Department has sounded a yellow alert for the Delhi-NCR region for today. Fresh weather forecasts indicate that light to moderate rainfall is expected across Delhi-NCR on August 4, 2026. While the possibility of extremely torrential downpours remains relatively low, intermittent spells of rain are likely to pop up at different locations throughout the day. Officials note that regional weather activity is currently being driven by active monsoon conditions combined with a fresh western disturbance moving across northwest India.
Significant Drop in Temperatures and Chilly Vibe
Today's weather in the national capital is not just pleasant but notably chilly due to the plunging mercury. Data from the IMD shows that Delhi's maximum temperature is projected to hover around 32 degrees Celsius, marking a sharp drop of 8 degrees below normal levels. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature is anticipated to settle near 24 degrees Celsius. Consequently, the cool atmosphere will persist through both day and night cycles.
High Humidity and Recurring Rain Spells
Atmospheric moisture levels remain quite elevated, serving as a strong indicator that precipitation will continue intermittently. Multiple rounds of light to moderate showers are lined up for morning, afternoon, and evening hours. Gusty winds accompanied by natural phenomena like lightning and thunderclaps are expected to accompany these weather patterns.
In Noida and Gautam Budh Nagar, skies have remained blanketed in clouds since early morning. While some sectors received morning showers, many neighborhoods remain dry for now but stand to receive periodic rainfall as the day progresses. Similarly, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, and Greater Noida will witness heavy cloud cover with chances of scattered to moderate precipitation.
Monsoon Context and Potential Challenges
The IMD explains that despite falling during the auspicious month of Sawan which typically represents peak monsoon activity, overall rainfall volumes have been suppressed by El Nino effects. Today's wet spell relies heavily on renewed monsoon vigor and incoming western disturbances affecting northwest India. Although the falling temperatures offer respite from the heat, high humidity means the air might still feel heavy at times. Furthermore, continuous downpours are likely to trigger localized issues such as water logging in various parts of Delhi.
