A major infrastructure push has been sanctioned to ease traffic congestion in Greater Noida and improve seamless connectivity across neighboring regional hubs. In a recent board meeting, the Greater Noida Authority formally approved the plan to construct Uttar Pradesh's first double-decker elevated road. This ambitious transit corridor will stretch from Ekmurti Chowk to Shahberi before merging directly into the Meerut Expressway, also designated as NH-9. Once operational, the new route will significantly cut down travel time for commuters moving between Greater Noida, Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut.
Project Scope and Structural Blueprint
According to Greater Noida Authority Chief Executive Officer Ravi Kumar NG, the project represents the first double-decker elevated roadway in the state. To ensure seamless execution, formal consent and operational alignment will also be secured from both the Noida Authority and the Yamuna Expressway Authority. The entire corridor spans approximately 5.75 kilometers in length. The segment running between Ekmurti Chowk and Shahberi will feature a three-lane double-decker elevated design. Moving forward from the Shahberi drain toward NH-9, the structure will transition into a six-lane single elevated highway.
Project Cost and Financial Allocation
The total outlay for the construction of this elevated project is estimated at approximately Rs 1,280 crore. To share the funding responsibility, the expenditure will be divided equally among four development bodies: the Yamuna Expressway Authority, the Noida Authority, the Greater Noida Authority, and the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA). The double-decker section alone is projected to cost around Rs 756.01 crore. Upon completion, this route will directly link Greater Noida's 130-meter-wide arterial road to the Meerut Expressway, providing long-distance commuters with a smooth, signal-free passage.
Second Key Link to the Eastern Peripheral Expressway
Alongside the elevated corridor, the authority board gave its approval to a second major connectivity initiative designed to link Greater Noida's 105-meter-wide sector road directly to the Eastern Peripheral Expressway. Originating near Junpat village, this new road link will cover a distance of roughly 12 kilometers. To cross existing transport infrastructure, including a main railway line, the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor link line, and GT Road, three overbridges will be constructed along the route. The proposed layout is planned as a 10-lane highway accompanied by 4 service lanes.
Regional Growth and Investment Outlook
The realization of these dual infrastructure developments is expected to enhance Greater Noida's integration with regional expressways and major urban centers like Delhi and Meerut. Beyond solving everyday traffic bottlenecks, the improved network will bolster local urban expansion and accelerate commercial development across newly planned investment sectors.
