The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a severe weather warning across multiple regions of the country, placing coastal and northern areas on heightened alert. Heavy downpours accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and stormy conditions are expected in several locations. Weather authorities have strongly advised residents in the most vulnerable districts to stay indoors, monitor official guidance, and refrain from undertaking unnecessary travel during this spell of intense weather.
Red Alert Issued for Kerala and Gujarat
A red alert for stormy weather has been specifically declared for several districts in Kerala and Gujarat. Both states are forecast to experience torrential rainfall alongside high-speed winds. Beyond these high-risk coastal zones, rain alerts have also been sounded for a broad belt of northern, eastern, and northeastern regions. Affected areas include Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, and most states across the northeast.
Bay of Bengal System to Reactivate Monsoon
In recent days, monsoon activity had entered a brief calm phase across inland parts of northern and eastern India, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand. However, weather observations indicate that a new atmospheric system is currently developing over the Bay of Bengal. The formation of this low-pressure system is set to reactivate monsoon currents, driving widespread rainfall across coastal regions first before spreading further inland across adjacent states over the coming days.
