Construction work to convert the 79.54 kilometer stretch from a traditional two-lane road into a modern four-lane highway commenced on March 6, 2023. This ongoing overhaul has dramatically slashed travel times for commuters. While journeying between Gorakhpur and Sonauli previously consumed up to 3.25 hours, the expanded highway has brought that duration down to approximately 1.5 hours. Upon full project completion, authorities expect the entire distance to be covered in roughly one hour.
