Travelers using road transport across Madhya Pradesh will now have to spend more on their daily commutes following a fare revision by the state transport department. The department has officially authorized an increase of 75 paise per kilometer for passenger bus services. This decision directly impacts commuters in Sagar district, where approximately 430 passenger buses operate daily to major urban centers as well as remote local routes. With nearly 30,000 passengers traveling from Sagar every day, the updated rates mean higher travel expenses for thousands of regular commuters.
Official Gazette Issued Following Strike Warning
The rate modification comes after persistent pressure from transport operators across the state. The Bus Owners Association had previously issued a formal warning to launch a state-wide strike starting August 7 if their demand for a fare increase was not met. To prevent a complete shutdown of public bus transport, the transport department published an official gazette notification approving the hike exactly two days before the scheduled strike deadline.
Revised Rates for Sagar to Indore and Bhopal Routes
Fares have gone up significantly along the routes connecting Sagar to Bhopal and the Malwa region. Passengers traveling to Rahatgarh, situated 40 kilometers from Sagar, will now pay ₹80. Destinations further along the route have seen fares adjusted to ₹135 for Begumganj, ₹185 for Gairatganj, and ₹300 for Raisen. Reaching the state capital, Bhopal, will now cost ₹386. For long-distance travel beyond Bhopal, the fare to Sehore stands at ₹468, while the total ticket price to Indore has reached ₹780.
Detailed Fares for Narsinghpur and Nagpur Routes
Passenger fares along the Sagar to Narsinghpur corridor have also been restructured. For Surkhi, located 28 kilometers from Sagar, the new fare is ₹55. Moving further along the route, tickets now cost ₹95 for Gourjhamar, ₹130 for Deori, ₹155 for Maharajpur, ₹210 for Barman, and ₹242 for Kareli. The complete 137-kilometer journey to Narsinghpur now costs ₹274. On the southern route toward Maharashtra, fares on the Sagar-Nagpur sector have been updated to ₹78 for Barkoti, ₹164 for Teetarpani, ₹448 for Amarwara, ₹532 for Chhindwara, and ₹790 for Nagpur.
Updated Costs for Jabalpur, Bundelkhand, and Regional Destinations
Travel toward the Mahakaushal region on the Sagar-Jabalpur route has become more expensive as well. Revised tickets stand at ₹38 for Sanodha, ₹94 for Garhakota, ₹144 for Samhua, ₹200 for Nohta, ₹238 for Jabera, ₹292 for Katangi, and ₹370 for Jabalpur. Across the Bundelkhand and Vindhya zones, fares from Sagar have been set at ₹164 for Tikamgarh, ₹716 for Rewa, ₹612 for Satna, ₹438 for Panna, ₹340 for Chhatarpur, and ₹450 for the heritage town of Khajuraho. Local feeder routes from Sagar have also seen updates, with fares fixed at ₹64 for Banda, ₹120 for Shahgarh, ₹150 for Hirapur, ₹100 for Khurai, ₹150 for Bina, ₹80 for Jaisinagar, and ₹90 for Rehli.
