A major road accident shook the busy ITO traffic signal area in Delhi on Sunday night when an out-of-control Swift car smashed through a road divider and crashed head-on into an oncoming Innova. The collision took place near the PWD office right opposite the old police headquarters. The violent impact left six people injured, including Kirari constituency MLA Anil Jha and Karnataka MLA Abhay Patil. Fortunately, despite the severity of the crash, no one sustained critical or life-threatening injuries.
Details of the Crash and Police Response
According to Delhi Police, information regarding the accident was received by the I.P. Estate police station through a PCR call at around 9:30 pm on Sunday. A police team rushed to the spot immediately to assess the situation. Initial police investigation revealed that a 32-year-old man named Ashutosh Pandey was driving the Swift car. He was accompanied by his wife and two minor children, and the family was traveling from Laxmi Nagar toward ITO. Near the PWD office, the car suddenly lost control and rammed straight into the median divider.
Leaping the Divider into Oncoming Traffic
The impact of the initial collision was so intense that the Swift did not just bounce off the divider; it vaulted right across the metal railing into the opposite lane of traffic. At that exact moment, an Innova was traveling from ITO toward Laxmi Nagar, and the airborne Swift slammed directly into it. Both vehicles suffered massive damage from the head-on collision, with the front portion of the Innova enduring the most severe destruction. The sudden crash caused an immediate commotion and panic at the scene.
Emergency Clearance and Rescue Efforts
The blockage caused by the wrecked vehicles in the middle of the road disrupted local traffic. Police and fire brigade units quickly arrived at the location to manage the crisis. The authorities worked swiftly to clear the damaged cars from the roadway, ensuring that normal traffic movement could resume safely without causing a massive gridlock. Emergency protocols were immediately enacted to move the victims to medical care.
Hospitalization and Current Condition of Victims
The mishap injured everyone inside the Swift, including Ashutosh Pandey, his wife, and their two children, alongside both legislators traveling in the Innova. Police stated that all injured individuals were promptly transported to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital for medical treatment. Medical evaluations confirmed that everyone is in stable condition, and authorities reported that no one suffered severe injuries.

Law enforcement agencies are currently investigating the exact cause of the accident. While preliminary local checks confirm that the Swift mounted the divider, the underlying reason why the driver lost control remains under detailed scrutiny.
