Muzaffarpur businessman couple murder solved after three months, younger brother turns out to be killer

Police in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, have solved the mysterious disappearance and murder of a laptop businessman and his wife after three months. The couple was killed by the younger brother over a property dispute.

A chilling crime has surfaced in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, sending shockwaves through the entire region as local police finally cracked the mysterious disappearance of laptop businessman Manoj भगत (48) and his wife Minu Devi (45) from the Brahmpura police station area. What makes this double murder case particularly disturbing is that the perpetrator is none other than the victim's own younger brother, who executed the killings over a bitter property dispute.

Property dispute triggers a brutal confrontation

Manoj Bhagat owned Bhagat Market, situated right in front of Bathua Nursing Home in the Brahmpura locality, where he operated his laptop business and lived within the same premises. Police investigations revealed that a prolonged dispute had been brewing between Manoj and his younger brother, Avinash alias Anuj Bhagat, regarding the ownership of the market complex and their ancestral property. This festering family feud ultimately escalated into a deadly confrontation that cost the couple their lives.

How the couple mysteriously vanished

The tragic events unfolded on the night of May 20, 2026, when Manoj Bhagat and his wife suddenly went missing under mysterious circumstances, with their mobile phones turning unreachable. After extensive searches failed to yield any clues, the couple's only daughter, Shefali, lodged a kidnapping FIR at the Brahmpura police station on May 22. Initial inspections of the couple's home revealed suspicious blood stains on the rooms and the terrace. Forensic science laboratory experts and a dog squad confirmed the stains were human blood, prompting law enforcement to ramp up the investigation using technical surveillance and call detail records.

Daughter's suspicion leads police to the culprit

From the very beginning, Shefali suspected that her uncle Avinash was behind the disappearance to grab the family property. Acting on this angle, the police intensified their probe and the needle of suspicion steadily pointed toward Avinash. An SDPO Vineeta Sinha-led special team had been carrying out raids across Bihar and multiple other states. Meanwhile, Avinash had also gone missing from his known locations since June 4, but police finally tracked him down and arrested him from Varanasi.

During intense interrogation, Avinash broke down and confessed to his crime. He admitted that on the night of May 20, an argument erupted between him and the couple over the property dispute. The quarrel spiraled out of control, leading him to murder both of them. According to investigators, Avinash first killed his elder brother inside the house. Hearing the commotion, Minu Devi attempted to flee to the terrace to save her life, but the accused chased her down and killed her there as well.

Bodies wrapped in blankets and dumped in bushes

Following the murders, the accused wrapped both bodies in bedsheets and blankets, loaded them into his vehicle, and drove to the Bochahan police station area near the Darbhanga four-lane highway. He dumped the remains in the thick bushes near the Muradpur intersection close to the Radha Swami Satsang Ashram. The bodies remained hidden there for months, eventually decomposing into skeletal remains. The owner of the plot where the skeletons were recovered informed police that someone had dumped two dead carcasses of cows at the same spot back in May. The overpowering stench of the decomposing cattle masked the smell of the human remains, preventing anyone from discovering the grim reality for months.

DNA testing and ongoing probe

Acting on the accused's disclosure, police successfully recovered the skeletal remains from the bushes in Bochahan. Authorities stated that a DNA test will be conducted to confirm the identity of the recovered remains. Investigators are also probing whether anyone else assisted Avinash in the conspiracy, evidence destruction, or transporting the bodies. The shocking resolution of this three-month-old mystery has left residents in Brahmpura and Bochahan stunned and horrified by the depths of greed.
