Mid-Air Crisis on Flydubai Flight FZ1073
The harrowing incident unfolded on Wednesday aboard Flydubai flight FZ1073, which was en route from Dubai to Tel Aviv. While operating at a cruising altitude of roughly 34,000 feet, the aircraft was plunged into extreme danger when the co-pilot reportedly initiated a violent knife attack against Captain Machhar in an apparent bid to bring down the commercial airliner.
Captain Machhar suffered severe stab wounds in the cockpit assault. During the chaotic confrontation, the airliner rapidly lost altitude, plummeting by more than 17,000 feet from its cruising position while distress signals were transmitted to air traffic control. The aircraft was carrying 174 passengers, a group that included 27 children. Despite facing grave physical trauma and heavy bleeding, Captain Machhar maintained command over the flight systems and prevented the situation from deteriorating into total catastrophe.
Emergency Landing in Tabuk and Initial Medical Care
Demonstrating immense composure, Captain Machhar steered the aircraft away from danger and diverted towards Saudi Arabian airspace. He executed an emergency landing at Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Airport in the Saudi city of Tabuk. All 174 passengers disembarked without injury, averting what could have been a catastrophic aviation disaster.
Emergency responders immediately rushed Captain Machhar to a medical facility in Tabuk, where doctors administered critical first aid to stabilise his wounds. Once his condition permitted transfer, he was moved to Abu Dhabi for specialized treatment and convalescence, before being admitted to a medical center in Dubai for continued clinical care.
Diplomatic Support and Ambassadorial Visit
Indian diplomatic missions in the Gulf region mobilized quickly to assist the injured aviator. The Indian Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Deepak Mittal, visited Captain Machhar and his family at the hospital to personally review the progress of his medical treatment.
The official communication channel of the Indian Embassy confirmed that Captain Machhar was in stable spirits and making steady progress towards recovery. The embassy affirmed that diplomatic personnel are maintaining unbroken communication with local UAE authorities to ensure the highest standard of ongoing healthcare for the pilot.

Official representatives reaffirmed that both the Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General of India in Dubai remain in close coordination with administrative and medical authorities.
