Indian Railways has introduced comprehensive transit arrangements to accommodate the heavy passenger volume expected during the Raksha Bandhan festival. With regular train services rapidly reaching peak capacity and long waiting lists forming across major routes, the rail authorities have scheduled 6 special trains linking key destinations in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. This seasonal initiative will remain operational from August 22 through August 31, 2026, ensuring smooth travel for commuters returning home for the celebrations.
Operational Details for Bareilly, Roorkee, Haridwar, and Lucknow Routes
According to the official schedule released by the railway administration, four of the six special services will serve the line between Bareilly and Roorkee, while two unreserved special trains are slated to run between Haridwar and Lucknow. The strategic deployment aims to streamline passenger flow and alleviate station overcrowding during peak holiday days.
Under the designated numbering system, the Bareilly to Roorkee special service will operate under train numbers 04321 and 04320. Conversely, the return services linking Roorkee and Bareilly will function as train numbers 04319 and 04322. The unreserved special services traveling between Haridwar and Lucknow have been assigned train numbers 04329 and 04330, providing flexible ticket availability for last-minute commuters who do not hold prior reservations.
Key Stoppages and En-Route Coverage
The unreserved special connecting Haridwar and Lucknow is scheduled to halt at multiple urban and industrial centers along its corridor. Key designated stops include Lucknow, Sandila, Balamau, Hardoi, Shahjahanpur, Bareilly, Rampur, Moradabad, Najibabad, and Haridwar. This comprehensive itinerary ensures that travelers across Awadh and Rohilkhand regions can easily access transport toward Uttarakhand.
Meanwhile, the Bareilly-Roorkee special services will cater to several intermediate towns and regional halts. Scheduled stoppages for these trains include Rampur, Moradabad, Kanth, Seohara, Dhampur, Nagina, Najibabad, Muzaffarnagar, Chandok, and Laksar. These halts are expected to reduce festive congestion on standard regional express services.
Augmentation of Capacity Across 8 Regular Express Trains
In addition to launching temporary special trains, the railway management is boosting seating capacity on high-demand regular routes. A total of 8 long-distance trains traveling between Delhi and Purvanchal via Moradabad will be augmented with one extra sleeper class coach each.
The trains selected for coach expansion include the Padmavat Express, Ayodhya Cantt-Delhi Express, Sampoorna Kranti Superfast Express, Humsafar Express, and Intercity Superfast. Railway officials noted that attaching extra coaches will directly clear pending waitlists, enabling more passengers to secure confirmed berths during the high-demand festival period.
