The Bharatiya Janata Party has strongly condemned the opposition INDIA bloc for marching toward the Election Commission of India on October 6 to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in New Delhi, BJP spokesperson and MP Sambit Patra described the demonstration as nothing more than a calculated endeavor by the Congress and its partners to incite disorder and orchestrate another political relaunch for Rahul Gandhi.
The Controversy Over Form-6 and Court Proceedings
Patra launched a sharp critique of Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of misquoting the Supreme Court to stir confusion and advance his own political standing. Earlier, Gandhi had stated on X that it stood established beyond doubt that the CEC had altered Form-6 in an unlawful and unilateral manner. Form-6 is the designated document utilized by citizens to apply for the inclusion of their names in the voter list.
Addressing the matter, Patra referred to a public interest litigation (PIL) hearing in the Supreme Court on Monday, highlighting that the bench never pronounced Form-6 to be illegal. The BJP lawmaker said, “The Supreme Court has not made any such statement. It has merely issued notices. The hearing has not even taken place yet. The Chief Justice of India (CJI) stated that the matter will be scrutinized when the hearing occurs. Yet, Rahul Gandhi is attempting to foster an atmosphere of chaos, falsehood, deception, and confusion in the country.” He asserted that Gandhi was distorting court proceedings solely to build political momentum.
Ten Questions Over Electoral Roll Revisions
Challenging the Congress leadership, Patra posed ten questions directly to Rahul Gandhi regarding the revision exercise. He questioned whether the Congress genuinely believed that the names of 2.8 crore deceased individuals, which were purged from the voter registry, ought to have remained on the rolls during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). He further asked whether Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi attained their parliamentary seats through stolen votes, and whether the ruling dispensations in Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Himachal Pradesh were likewise products of electoral theft.
Highlighting historical precedents, the BJP spokesperson pointed out that 12 SIR exercises were conducted across the country between 1952 and 2014. He questioned whether the subsequent Congress governments formed after those revisions were illegitimate. Patra also scrutinized the ground-level preparedness of the opposition, asking why their 6.8 lakh booth-level agents (BLAs) failed to submit formal complaints if legitimate voter entries were being deleted.
Allegations of Repeated Attacks on Democratic Institutions
Patra argued that the Congress leadership has persistently attempted every conceivable method to launch and relaunch Rahul Gandhi. When those efforts consistently failed to gain traction, the party and its allies chose to pursue this agenda regardless of whether it weakened democratic systems or fostered unrest. He pointed out that this pattern previously manifested as assaults on the Indian Armed Forces, the Supreme Court, Hindus, and Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), with the Election Commission becoming their primary target in recent weeks.
