Security agencies swung into intense action at the Taj Mahal in Agra on August 7, 2026, conducting a comprehensive security drill. The Uttar Pradesh Police secured the entire perimeter, while the Central Industrial Security Force simulated tactical maneuvers to counter an armed assault. Personnel executed established operational protocols to demonstrate their readiness in handling high-threat emergency scenarios.
Simulated Terrorist Assault and Explosive Detection
The mock exercise was designed around a hypothetical scenario where armed terrorists launched an attack on the iconic monument. Security forces were tested on their ability to deliver an immediate tactical response and bring the threat under control swiftly. Beyond the simulated assault, the drill also incorporated a hidden improvised explosive device. The primary challenge for the responders was to locate the suspicious IED and neutralize it efficiently.
Coordination Across Multiple Agencies
To ensure thorough scanning and threat identification, the bomb detection and disposal squad along with specialized dog squads were deployed into the drill. The canine units of both the CISF and the UP Police actively participated in tracking potential hazards. The massive exercise brought together a wide array of entities including the CISF, UP Police, ASI management, fire services, BDDS, dog squads, SIS, LIU, and medical response units.
Medical Preparedness and Post-Drill Review
Recognizing that actual attacks or explosive incidents often involve casualties and fire hazards, medical teams and fire services were integrated into the operation to handle emergency evacuation and fire suppression. This high-security operation was not a real incident, but rather a pre-planned multi-agency mock drill conducted ahead of Independence Day. Its core objective was to evaluate operational preparedness, inter-agency communication, mutual coordination, and emergency response times. Following the conclusion of the drill, a debriefing session was held under the supervision of Taj Mahal CISF Unit Commandant Rishi Kaushik.
