The worsening weather conditions have also forced authorities to temporarily suspend major pilgrimage routes, including the Amarnath Yatra and the Char Dham Yatra, as massive boulders and debris block access roads.
Cloudbursts and Landslides Cause Havoc in Jammu-Kashmir and Uttarakhand
The union territory of Jammu and Kashmir has suffered extensive damage due to localized cloudburst events. In Kishtwar district, a violent cloudburst struck the Channu area at approximately 2:30 AM late at night. The resulting torrent of water swept away multiple parked vehicles and damaged several residential structures, inflicting severe property losses on local residents. Similarly, in Shopian district, a sudden surge of floodwaters submerged an entire village, damaging homes and severing connectivity with neighboring areas.
Continuous landslides and rockfalls along mountain slopes have deposited tons of rubble across key transit routes. Consequently, the ongoing Amarnath Yatra has been halted to ensure pilgrim safety. Meanwhile, in Uttarakhand, overflowing rivers and falling boulders have created hazardous driving conditions across mountain passes. Debris accumulation on main highways has led to an official pause on the annual Char Dham Yatra as disaster response crews work to clear blocked corridors.
Submerged Societies in Gujarat and Red Alerts for Six Districts
In Western India, relentless rainfall has triggered flood-like conditions across several districts of Gujarat. In Surendranagar, heavy downpours inundated multiple residential societies, driving water deep into homes and trapping residents inside. Emergency teams were forced to deploy rescue boats to safely evacuate stranded citizens to higher ground. In response to the intensifying system, the India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for the next 24 to 48 hours covering six key districts: Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara, Surendranagar, and Navsari. Forecasters have warned of extremely heavy precipitation across these areas.
High Mortality in Assam Floods and Submerged Villages in Odisha and Kerala
Northeastern Assam continues to endure a major humanitarian crisis as overflowing rivers submerge vast expanses of land, particularly in Sivasagar and adjacent districts. The catastrophic flooding in Assam has resulted in 80 recorded deaths so far, with over 2.12 lakh people directly affected across the state. To alleviate the financial strain on impacted communities, a six-month waiver on bank loan repayments has been granted in the flood-affected districts. Displacement has led to acute shortages of food, drinking water, and basic supplies for thousands of families.
In Eastern India, Odisha faces parallel distress as floodwaters inundate entire villages in Puri district and surrounding regions, leaving agricultural fields and homes under water. Down south, Kerala is contending with continuous monsoon rains that have submerged low-lying areas and halted routine daily activities.
