External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar used an international platform to make a striking point, arguing that in today's interconnected world, no crisis or conflict stays confined to its own region anymore, its effects reach all the way into an ordinary person's wallet. Speaking about India's deepening strategic and economic ties with the European Union, he said the two sides now need to lift their cooperation to a new level, because no single country can tackle today's global challenges alone.
Why leaning on a single supply source is a global risk
Jaishankar said that keeping the world economy running smoothly depends on having strong, flexible supply chains, but right now the world is grappling with a string of structural problems across connectivity, logistics, technology and supply chains. He specifically warned that if production stays concentrated in a handful of places, or worse, a single source, it turns into a major risk for the entire global system. In other words, if one country or region chokes the supply of something essential, the rest of the world ends up paying the price for it.
- Building alternatives: according to Jaishankar, the moment has come to set up new, reliable alternative sources of supply worldwide so that international markets don't spiral into panic the next time a crisis hits.

Turning to geopolitical tensions, Jaishankar said that in this age of globalisation, no war or military conflict stays confined to its own region. Citing the Ukraine war and the rising tensions in Gulf countries, Africa and the Indo-Pacific, he explained that these conflicts directly hit global trade, fuel prices and food security. A war breaking out in one corner of the world, he said, can change the lives of people sitting in a completely different corner, and the fallout often shows up in ways nobody could have anticipated in advance. That, he added, is exactly why deep political coordination and strategic cooperation between nations is no longer just a good option, it has become an unavoidable necessity in this era of overlapping crises.
India-EU partnership called a pillar of global stability
Jaishankar stressed that in today's testing times, strategic cooperation between close, trusted partners like India and the European Union serves not just their own interests but also stands as a strong pillar for global stability. Working together on issues such as climate change, cybersecurity and maritime security, he said, is the only way to hand the world a safer and more stable future. In his view, multilateral dialogue and strong economic partnerships remain the only real path left to bring down global risks.
