About Lal Bahadur Shastri
Lal Bahadur Shastri served as the second Prime Minister of independent India after receiving the title of Shastri from Kashi Vidyapeeth. Following independence, he began his administrative journey as Parliamentary Secretary in Uttar Pradesh and subsequently held the portfolios of police and transport in the cabinet headed by Govind Ballabh Pant. During his tenure as transport minister, he introduced a groundbreaking administrative measure by appointing female conductors in public buses for the first time. Later, in his role as police minister, he initiated the practice of deploying water jets instead of wooden batons to control agitated crowds.
Organizational Acumen and Tenure as Prime Minister
In 1951, under the leadership of Jawaharlal Nehru, Shastri took charge as the General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee.
