Donald Trump has issued a severe military warning to Iran and Houthi forces following recent attacks on commercial shipping. After Houthi militants reportedly fired upon two Saudi Arabian vessels last night, Trump declared that any further aggression would result in massive retaliation against both the rebel group and their backers in Tehran.
A Direct Threat to Tehran
The warning, issued through a statement on Truth Social, directly links the actions of the Yemen-based Houthis to the Iranian government. Trump stated that the United States considers the Houthis to be a proxy and surrogate for Iran. Consequently, Washington will hold Tehran entirely accountable for any future maritime disruptions. He explicitly warned that "major military punishment will be inflicted upon Iran" if the hostilities do not cease immediately.
Escalating Middle East Tensions
This renewed threat follows a volatile period in the region. According to news reports, the United States engaged in direct military strikes against Iran earlier this year, a conflict that drew widespread scrutiny over its legal basis and the risk of drawing the country into another prolonged war. Trump noted that about a year ago, the US had also powerfully attacked the Houthis for shooting at ships and interfering with global trade.
Resumption of Hostilities
Trump observed that following those initial American strikes, and throughout the recent US conflict with Iran, the Houthis had acted very responsibly and professionally. However, the sudden attack on the Saudi Arabian ships marks an abrupt end to that restraint. Trump expressed personal disappointment in the rebel group for abandoning their recent smart behavior, stressing that repeating such actions will trigger immediate and severe consequences.
