President Donald Trump used his Truth Social account to announce that grocery chain Giant Eagle plans to cut prices on more than 300 products this summer.
Posting from his @realDonaldTrump handle, Trump described Giant Eagle as a great American grocery company and said it would lower prices significantly across more than 300 items, with the reduced prices running from this summer through Labor Day. He presented the move as a response to his administration's push for retailers to ease costs for working families.
Walmart gets a mention too
Trump compared Giant Eagle's move to Walmart, saying both chains are stepping up in a big way to answer his call for lower prices. He said other grocery chains must follow the lead of what he called the patriots at Giant Eagle and Walmart.
Trump links it to oil, gas, eggs and drug prices
In the same post, Trump claimed that prices for oil, gas, eggs and prescription drugs are all falling fast, crediting his administration for fixing what he called a disaster inherited from the previous administration under Joe Biden. Trump has separately floated using Venezuela's large crude oil reserves to push US oil prices down to $50 a barrel.
What Trump said
Trump wrote, "Together, we will make America stronger and more affordable than ever before." He blamed Democrats and the Biden administration for the inflation Americans have faced, and signed off the post as President Donald J. Trump.
