Political momentum reached a peak in the national capital ahead of the joint opposition demonstration scheduled at the historic Ramlila Maidan. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi issued a public call inviting citizens to take part in the massive congregation. He urged people to gather at Connaught Place to march together or head straight to the rally ground. The gathering on November 1 marks a coordinated effort by opposition parties to project unity on major national concerns.
The Public Call and Schedule
In a public statement shared on the social media platform X, Rahul Gandhi stated that the proceedings were scheduled to begin at 12 noon. Centered on the slogan 'Save Vote, Save Country', his message prompted residents to step forward and make their presence felt. Participants were given the choice to walk jointly from Connaught Place or meet directly at the venue, underscoring the scale of mobilization planned across Delhi.
Opposition Convergence and Regional Mobilization
The foundation for this grand event was laid on October 26 when Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge announced the November 1 demonstration at Ramlila Maidan, directing criticism at the central government over rising inflation. Key regional figures have joined the assembly, including Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who travelled to Delhi alongside his wife Kalpana Soren. Furthermore, members of the Tana Bhagat community journeyed from Ranchi carrying their own rations, utensils, and firewood to participate. In Madhya Pradesh, senior leader Digvijaya Singh called upon the public and party workers to march to Delhi, while organizational strategies were also drawn up in places like Bagaha to consolidate ground support.
Security Deployments and Political Face-Off
To oversee public order during the massive gathering, authorities introduced extensive security arrangements across the venue. Ramlila Maidan was divided into 14 distinct security zones, backed by the deployment of 4,000 security personnel. Concurrently, the Bharatiya Janata Party leadership held high-level deliberations ahead of the event, formalizing blueprints for upcoming legislative assembly elections. The two political camps have engaged in sharp exchanges over the event, with Congress framing it as a historic mobilization while the Bharatiya Janata Party dismissed it as an ineffective gathering.
