Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a stern criticism against the Congress Working Committee resolution regarding the recital of Vande Mataram during an address in Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu on Thursday. The Home Minister characterized the resolution passed by the opposition party as anti-national and accused its leadership of aggressively advancing appeasement politics once again.
Historical Context and Allegations of Appeasement
Detailing the historical background, Amit Shah stated that the Congress Working Committee referenced its own 1937 resolution to justify singing only the first two stanzas of the national song. He alleged that the decision to truncate Vande Mataram in 1937 was executed primarily to appease Muslims, which ultimately laid the foundation for the partition of India. Shah emphasized that the nation has previously suffered severe consequences as a result of compromising on national symbols.
Legal Safeguards and Respect for Freedom Fighters
Highlighting the actions of the current central government, the Union Home Minister pointed out that the Narendra Modi government corrected this historic error to fortify national integrity while giving the national song a legal framework. Shah questioned why Congress continues to ignore legislation enacted by Parliament while persisting with its 1937 position. He asserted that selectively reciting the composition by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay is not merely a disrespect to its creator, but also an insult to the sacrifices of lakhs of freedom fighters who laid down their lives for independence.
Political Critique and Call for Public Unity
Directly targeting the leadership of the opposition, Amit Shah asserted that under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, Congress is pushing the country back into the grips of appeasement politics. Recalling the historical outcome of such decisions, Shah stated, "The country has once made the mistake of allowing Vande Mataram to be divided into two parts and we have suffered its consequences." He affirmed that the Bharatiya Janata Party unequivocally condemns the Congress resolution, maintaining that appeasement policies must not find acceptance in the country, and called upon citizens to stand united against the decision.
