With the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections anticipated in early 2027, political parties are actively laying out their ground strategies and stepping up campaign preparations. Shifting its core attention to the crucial state right after holding a major rally in Delhi, the Congress leadership has officially initiated its strategic groundwork. Senior party figure Priyanka Gandhi met with key leaders and functionaries from Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday to formulate an early electoral roadmap.
Three-Hour Marathon Review at Delhi Residence
The crucial gathering took place at Priyanka Gandhi's residence in Delhi and lasted for approximately 3 hours. State leaders engaged in extensive deliberations over several key structural requirements necessary to prepare the cadre well ahead of the polling season. Formulating the upcoming state executive committee formed a vital part of the agenda, aiming to inject active leadership across regional committees.
Senior representatives carried out an in-depth review of booth-level preparations across Uttar Pradesh constituencies. The leadership laid strong emphasis on reinforcing grassroots networks, mobilising local volunteers, and ensuring structured outreach to voters at every polling station. Strengthening the organisational base across urban and rural belts was earmarked as an urgent operational priority.
Discussions on SP Alliance and Seat-Sharing Formula
Beyond internal party structures, the session focused heavily on broader electoral arrangements. Party leaders deliberated on the modalities of a potential tie-up with the Samajwadi Party for the upcoming assembly battle. Detailed conversations addressed the seat-sharing formula, exploring how seats might be allocated between coalition partners to present a united front against rivals.
Assessing local winning factors and seat compatibility early was deemed critical by party planners. The objective remains establishing clear tactical coordination well before the full campaign cycle commences across the state.
Akhilesh Yadav Rules Out Contesting Assembly Elections
Simultaneously on Tuesday, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav made a major public declaration regarding his electoral participation. He officially stated that he will not contest the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections as a candidate for a seat in the state legislature.
Elaborating on his approach, Akhilesh Yadav remarked, "We become chief minister when we do not contest elections. Therefore, we will do what is auspicious for us." He referenced his previous tenure, noting that he had assumed the chief minister's office in the past without contesting the assembly election beforehand, and asserted that he would again transition directly from the Lok Sabha to take the chief ministerial oath. His announcement has introduced a fresh dynamic into seat calculations and coalition coordination across Uttar Pradesh.
