A tense political situation unfolded in Barrackpore when Mamata Banerjee's vehicle became the target of a stone-pelting incident. The episode occurred while she was travelling to meet the relatives of a Trinamool worker who had passed away while in police custody. Along the way, her car was bombarded with stones, and slogans calling her a thief were directed at her, intensifying political friction in the state.
Expressing deep dismay over the attack, Mamata Banerjee stated that antisocial elements hurled massive stones at her car right under the nose of the police force. She remarked that the impact was so violent that had the windows been rolled open, her skull would have shattered and everyone in the vehicle could have lost their lives. Emphasizing that she had never witnessed anything of this sort before, she questioned the unfolding situation and alleged that the police were actively protecting BJP.
Meanwhile, BJP state president Samik Bhattacharya responded to the allegations by clarifying that his party does not condone anyone throwing stones, mud, or slippers at a former chief minister's vehicle. He maintained that no BJP worker was involved in the incident and asserted that the party does not wish for such disrespectful behavior to be directed at a former female chief minister of the state, as it ultimately damages West Bengal's reputation. Condemning the incident, he added that if such an event took place, the administration would take immediate action.
