Amid discussions regarding troop friction along the India-China border, Beijing has officially presented its perspective. The Chinese administration stated that it is faithfully complying with past agreements and mutual understandings established between the two nations. According to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun, Chinese troops stationed along the frontier are conducting routine patrols and surveillance to protect their territory and maintain stability in the region.
This latest response comes at a time when Indo-Tibetan Border Police Director General Shatrujeet Kapoor had disclosed instances of Indian and Chinese troops coming face-to-face at multiple locations in Arunachal Pradesh. He had indicated that such situations had developed over the past few days and confrontations remained active in certain pockets.
Beijing stance and expectations from India
Chinese Foreign Ministry representative Guo Jiakun reiterated that agreements and crucial understandings reached between the two countries are being implemented. According to him, the objective of troop patrols and monitoring at the border is to defend national territorial integrity and preserve peace. Furthermore, Beijing clarified that both sides remain in contact through diplomatic and military channels.
China appealed to India to also cooperate in executing mutually agreed points and working together to sustain peace in border areas. Conversely, the Indian position has consistently been that disputes arise when Chinese troops deviate from established patrolling norms and protocols.
Border security force preparations
During an address to troops in Alwar, Rajasthan, ITBP Director General Shatrujeet Kapoor had revealed that Chinese People Liberation Army soldiers had confronted Indian personnel across several sectors in Arunachal Pradesh in recent days. However, officials subsequently clarified in this context that the remarks pertained to regular deployment and preparedness rather than being framed as an isolated untoward incident.
During the same address, Kapoor also noted that the ITBP has raised a new commando team named Shaurya. He mentioned that this specialized unit demonstrated its operational capabilities during ongoing face-to-face situations with Chinese soldiers in the Arunachal Pradesh sector.
