Prior to the passage of this legislation, intense political friction erupted in the House as Union Minister Jitendra Singh targeted Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, accusing the opposition of playing politics over a sensitive subject concerning youth welfare.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh Questions Opposition Stance
Speaking in the House, Union Minister Jitendra Singh criticized the conduct and tone of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi. Singh claimed that Rahul Gandhi had referred to the country's youth as foolish, describing such statements as deeply disheartening for the nation's future. He further addressed claims surrounding the events of July 21, asserting that the opposition was presenting inaccurate details inside Parliament.
Clarifying the July 21 demonstration, Jitendra Singh recalled that Rahul Gandhi had staged a protest directly outside the Prime Minister's residence. The minister refuted allegations of gunfire during the incident, clarifying that law enforcement authorities did not fire any bullets and had deployed only tear gas to control the gathering.
Scheduled Media Addresses at BJP Headquarters and Indira Bhavan
The confrontation in Parliament is set to escalate into a major political showdown later in the evening through separate media briefings by both sides. At 4:30 PM, Sambit Patra is scheduled to address reporters at the BJP headquarters to present the party's response to the opposition's allegations.
Following that, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi will hold a press conference at Indira Bhavan at 6:00 PM. Both leaders are expected to deliver sharp counterattacks against each other while outlining their respective positions on the paper leak legislation and the recent protests.
