Following recent political developments in Karnataka, Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has taken a firm stand against discontent within party ranks over cabinet positions. Responding to warnings from dissatisfied lawmakers who missed out on ministerial berths during the latest expansion, the Chief Minister emphasized on Tuesday that party discipline and organizational strength take precedence over individual ambitions. He asserted that if any lawmaker chooses to submit a resignation, it will be processed and accepted within minutes.
Party Priority and Advice for Patience
Addressing the growing friction within the state Congress unit, DK Shivakumar noted that resignations and grievances are routine occurrences in political life. He remarked that leaders who care about their long term political career and the growth of the organization must recognize that all positions stem from the existence of the party itself. Urging aggrieved legislators to remain patient, he assured them that appointments to various state government boards and statutory corporations would be finalized shortly to accommodate additional leaders.
Lessons from Past Political Precedents
Drawing from his personal journey, the Chief Minister cited historical instances where patience ultimately yielded rewards. He highlighted that he was not included in the cabinet during the tenures of former Chief Ministers Dharam Singh and Siddaramaiah, yet he chose not to step down. He also referenced Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara as an example of leadership maintaining composure during uncertain times.
Elaborating further on historical political developments, Shivakumar pointed out that during Veerendra Patil's leadership as Chief Minister, prominent figures such as S. Bangarappa, current Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and Dharam Singh were initially left out of the cabinet. However, through perseverance, both Bangarappa and Dharam Singh eventually rose to become Chief Ministers of Karnataka in later years.

The firm warning comes right after the DK Shivakumar government executed its cabinet expansion on Monday, administering the oath of office to 19 new ministers. The decision left several senior figures disgruntled, including prominent lawmaker Dinesh Gundu Rao. Rao, who served as Health Minister under the previous Siddaramaiah administration and represents a key Brahmin face within the party, openly expressed his disappointment over being excluded.
