Police Complaint Filed Against MP Pappu Yadav for Saffron Disguise During Parliament Protest

A police complaint has been filed at Jahangirpuri station against MP Pappu Yadav for allegedly hurting religious sentiments while protesting in a saffron disguise outside Parliament.

A controversial demonstration outside the Parliament complex in New Delhi has triggered legal trouble for Independent MP Pappu Yadav. Following a street play organized on Friday, July 31, where the lawmaker dressed as a saffron-clad seer to highlight alleged irregularities in Ram Mandir donations, a formal police complaint has been lodged against him at Jahangirpuri Police Station for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.

Opposition Staged Street Play Outside Parliament

On July 31, several leaders from the opposition INDIA alliance gathered outside Parliament to mount a unique protest against the Central government. The lawmakers resorted to a street play format to raise concerns regarding alleged financial mismanagement and theft of funds collected for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. During this demonstration, Purnea Member of Parliament Pappu Yadav attracted attention by donning saffron robes and acting as a temple priest seeking offerings while holding a framed picture of Bhagwan Ram Lalla Virajman.

Beyond the donation issue, the protesting MPs demanded clear accountability from Union Home Minister Amit Shah. They insisted that the Home Minister attend the parliamentary proceedings to address the recent police action against protesting students. The high-profile demonstration received direct support and participation from key opposition figures, including Rahul Gandhi, Dimple Yadav, and Awadhesh Kumar.

Police Complaint Files Charges of Hurting Religious Sentiments

The nature of the protest quickly drew sharp criticism, leading complainant Surya Maithil to approach the police. In his filing at Jahangirpuri Police Station, Maithil accused MP Pappu Yadav of misusing sacred religious attire and symbols for political theater. He stated that using sacred items in such a manner intentionally insulted the faith of millions of Sanatana Dharma followers across the country.

Highlighting the involvement of opposition leaders, complainant Surya Maithil stated, "The political drama led by Pappu Yadav was backed by Rahul Gandhi, Dimple Yadav, and Awadhesh Kumar, where a picture of Lord Ram Lalla was placed near the feet, deeply offending Sanatani sentiments." He emphasized that political opposition should not cross boundaries into desecration of sacred figures.

Demand for Immediate Legal Action Against Opposition Leaders

In his formal complaint, Surya Maithil appealed directly to top government and law enforcement authorities to initiate swift proceedings. The complaint petition was addressed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Delhi Police Commissioner, DCP North, DCP North West, ACP Jahangirpuri, and the SHO of Jahangirpuri Police Station, demanding immediate criminal charges against those responsible.

The complainant stressed that law enforcement agencies must take decisive steps against anyone involved in disrespecting religious figures or inciting public anger. Calling the protest an uncalled-for spectacle on the steps of the legislature, Maithil insisted that holding public office does not grant immunity from hurting public sentiments under the guise of political agitation.
