The Bharatiya Janata Party in West Bengal is facing a fresh internal challenge as allegations of corruption, extortion, and anti-party activities surface within its own ranks just months after a major electoral breakthrough. The situation has created an ironic political landscape, as the very issues that the party historically used to target the Trinamool Congress administration led by Mamata Banerjee are now being directed at individuals within its own organizational setup.
Widespread Disciplinary Actions Across Districts
Treating the situation with utmost urgency, the state leadership has initiated sweeping disciplinary measures across various districts. Approximately 25 workers have been stripped of their party membership and suspended indefinitely. Furthermore, formal show-cause notices have been dispatched to over 300 functionaries and grassroots members who are accused of partaking in coercive extortion rings, corrupt practices, and activities that directly undermine the party directives.
Internal Assessment of the Crisis
Addressing the developments, a senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader acknowledged the gravity of the situation, noting that extortion has indeed emerged as a pressing problem with multiple facets. According to internal evaluations, a segment of long-standing members shares the blame, while numerous former Trinamool Congress workers who migrated into the organization informally have carried over their old operational habits into the new setup.
Strict Warnings Issued to Local Units
In response to the growing internal dissent and misconduct, the leadership has issued stern directives to district heads to immediately clamp down on such practices. Emphasizing that the organization operates under a strict ideological code, party representatives made it clear that anyone found violating organizational protocols will face decisive punitive measures without exception.
