Political momentum is rapidly building across West Bengal as preparations get underway for seven urban local body elections scheduled before the end of the year. Amid internal factional dynamics, leadership has initiated comprehensive measures to consolidate its support base and ensure organizational readiness at the grassroots level.
Instructions have been issued to key organizers across every district to compile exhaustive rosters of local leaders and workers who remain steadfast in their allegiance to the faction led by Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee. Once these district-wise compilations are handed over, the central leadership will convene a core strategy meeting with state-level functionaries to finalize candidate selections and map out the overarching campaign approach.
Compiling such structured documentation of loyal cadres serves a vital administrative purpose in demonstrating legitimacy before the Election Commission of India. Party insiders noted that presenting these verified lists will help substantiate their legal claim over the official All India तृणमूल कांग्रेस identity and the traditional grass-and-flowers electoral symbol.
In parallel with gathering these records, local representatives have initiated the collection of formal affidavits from district workers. However, the process faces hurdles as insiders allege that state machinery and police forces are exerting pressure on local operatives to sign alternative documents pledging allegiance to the rival faction headed by Ritabrata Banerjee.
Mirroring the recent electoral arrangements witnessed during by-elections in the Nandigram assembly constituency of East Medinipur district and the Raghiganj assembly constituency of Murshidabad district, the Mamata-led faction will contest these upcoming urban polls under the newly designated name ममता ऑल इंडिया तृणमूल कांग्रेस alongside the football player symbol.
Conversely, the dissident faction under Ritabrata will participate under the banner of Democratic तृणमूल कांग्रेस using the envelope election symbol. Voting for the seven municipal bodies, which prominently include the Kolkata Municipal Corporation and the Howrah Municipal Corporation, is anticipated to take place during the final week of November, with election outcomes likely declared in the opening week of December.
Regarding political alliances, the Mamata-led faction had explored the possibility of joining forces with the Congress party for these municipal contests, but the state Congress unit firmly rebuffed the proposal. Meanwhile, the Ritabrata faction has independently clarified that they will contest the upcoming local polls entirely on their own without forming any coalition.
