Political activities across Uttar Pradesh are gaining momentum well ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections. The war of words between the ruling establishment and the primary opposition camp has intensified significantly. Joining the fray, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a sharp verbal assault on Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, raising serious questions regarding the high-profile Jayaprakash Narayan International Centre project in the state capital and cornering the opposition over alleged financial irregularities.
Siphoning public funds in the name of a leader
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated in unequivocal terms that public funds were ruthlessly plundered during the previous opposition tenure under the guise of honoring the legendary freedom fighter and icon of democracy, Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan. Providing details, he pointed out that the initial estimated cost for the landmark project was pegged at a modest 200 crore rupees. However, during the tenure of the Samajwadi Party, expenditures skyrocketed to a staggering 864 crore rupees, yet the massive structure remains incomplete to this day.
Private control plot and financial misuse
Escalating his attack, the Chief Minister alleged that a deliberate plot was hatched to transfer ownership of the grand facility, built entirely using state coffers, over to a private committee. He claimed that a specialized committee was formed featuring prominent figures such as Akhilesh Yadav, Dimple Yadav, and Dharmendra Yadav, aimed at securing ultimate ownership and revenue streams of the international center—which featured amenities like a hotel, gym, and club—into private hands and the control of a single family.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the funds poured into the project did not belong to any political syndicate, but represented the hard-earned tax money of the citizens of Uttar Pradesh. The financial resources that should have been utilized toward generating employment for the youth, improving public education, enhancing healthcare services, and building essential infrastructure were instead squandered on an unfinished building.
Investigation and zero-tolerance policy
Following the formation of the Bharatiya Janata Party government in the state in the year 2017, immediate steps were taken to halt these irregularities, and the matter was formally handed over to the Lucknow Development Authority for a thorough probe. The administration has made it clear that every single rupee belonging to the public exchequer will be accounted for and recovered.
Reiterating his government's administrative stance, Yogi Adityanath underscored a strict zero-tolerance approach toward corruption and financial malpractice. He asserted that ever since the unrestricted flow of public money to vested interests has been blocked, opposition leaders have found themselves unnerved and resorting to erratic rhetoric.

Political analysts observe that this aggressive positioning by the Chief Minister ahead of the 2027 assembly polls is designed to counter the narrative built by rival political groups.
