A sharp rally in Indian equity markets has propelled Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani back to the summit of Asian wealth. Ambani surpassed Zhang Yiming, co-founder of Chinese tech powerhouse ByteDance, after a substantial 10.5 percent single-day expansion in his net worth carried his personal fortune to $88.8 billion on Tuesday. The upward revaluation also lifted the Indian industrialist to the 22nd position on the global wealth leaderboard.
Shifting Fortunes Among Asian Tycoons
Zhang Yiming now occupies the 25th position worldwide with an estimated valuation of $84 billion. Right behind him sits Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani, who holds the 26th global spot with total wealth assessed at $80.1 billion. The recent market movements have handed Ambani a decisive lead over both regional rivals, solidifying his dominance atop the Asian billionaire hierarchy.
Market Rally Driven by Stellar Second-Quarter Numbers
The immediate catalyst behind Ambani's surging fortune was a remarkable surge in the equity value of Reliance Industries. During Monday trading, shares of the oil-to-telecom heavyweight jumped by nearly 12 percent, an advance that added more than $19 billion to the conglomerate's overall market capitalization in a single trading session.
Investors rushed into the stock following the release of the company's financial report for the July to September quarter. Reliance delivered its strongest quarterly operating results to date, setting unprecedented milestones across its aggregate top line, operating margins, and bottom line profitability. Strong operating dynamics across its petrochemical and refining footprint, consumer retail operations, and telecom infrastructure provided synchronous momentum to the quarterly performance.
Historic Profitability and Revenue Expansion
Consolidated revenue for the July to September period advanced by 28 percent year-on-year, scaling a fresh record of 3.62 lakh crore rupees. Operating strength was equally evident in the group's EBITDA, which expanded 24 percent compared to the prior year to reach 62,409 crore rupees. Net profit logged an impressive jump of 34 percent to touch 29,550 crore rupees, representing the highest quarterly profit figure ever generated by Reliance Industries.
Record Performance Across Petrochemicals and Refining
The core Oil-to-Chemicals segment delivered the standout operational performance of the quarter. Segmental revenue rose 44.2 percent on an annualized basis to reach 2.32 lakh crore rupees, while O2C EBITDA surged 67.9 percent higher to settle at 25,203 crore rupees.
Earnings were substantially bolstered by transportation fuel cracks, a foundational metric of operational refining margins. These margin indicators surged between 3 and 3.7 times above levels seen twelve months earlier, touching historic peaks during the quarter and transforming the segment into a primary growth engine.
Brokerage Upgrades and Subsidiary Debut
The robust financial disclosures prompted an immediate shift in institutional outlook. Analysts at domestic brokerage Avendus Spark lifted their stance on Reliance Industries stock from 'Reduce' to 'Add'. This rating shift marked the first time since 2017 that no major market analyst carried a 'Hold' or 'Sell' recommendation on Reliance equity.
Group sentiment had already received a major lift from the market debut of digital arm Jio Platforms. The subsidiary began trading on the National Stock Exchange on October 28, with its shares climbing 27 percent on their debut session to pave the way for parent group gains.
Six Decades of Growth and Digital Dominance
Originally established in 1957 by Dhirubhai Ambani, Reliance Industries has transformed across decades into India's most valuable corporate entity, commanding a market capitalization exceeding 17.54 lakh crore rupees.
Under Mukesh Ambani's stewardship, Jio Platforms serves as the digital spearhead of the enterprise. By June, its telecom network serviced over 53.3 crore mobile subscribers, cementing its status as India's premier mobile operator. Jio Platforms executed the largest initial public offering in Indian corporate history, gathering $3.2 billion in investor capital against a company valuation of approximately $106 billion. Reliance retains an ownership stake of about 66 percent in Jio Platforms following its market listing on October 28. On the international stage, Reliance Industries secured the 55th position among the world's largest public corporations in the 2026 Global 2000 compilation, backed by annual sales of $119.7 billion, total assets of $229.6 billion, and net profit of $9.1 billion.
