A horrific multi-vehicle collision caused panic and chaos on Bahadurke Road in Punjab's industrial hub, Ludhiana, on Thursday afternoon. A recklessly driven electric passenger car ploughed into several commuters and smaller vehicles along the crowded stretch, leaving five individuals injured. The sheer violence of the impact threw a motorcyclist high into the air before he landed several metres away on the hard tarmac. Local shopkeepers and passersby rushed to aid the injured, moving them immediately to a nearby healthcare facility while police initiated an inquiry into the crash.
Chain-reaction collision caught on camera
The incident occurred at approximately 4:00 PM on Thursday along Bahadurke Road. A white Tiago EV, moving at an extremely high rate of speed, suddenly lost control and triggered a devastating chain collision. The fast-moving car first hit a bicycle before crashing forcefully into a motorcycle and then an e-rickshaw.
The momentum of the crash flung the motorcyclist nearly 10 to 15 feet straight up into the air. He spun around 3 times in mid-air before crashing onto the road surface nearly 30 feet from the impact point, leaving the motorcycle completely mangled. Continuing its destructive trajectory, the errant car struck two more oncoming e-rickshaws and an Activa scooter. The force of the strike caused one e-rickshaw to overturn in the middle of the road. The entire episode was captured by an area CCTV camera, with the footage widely circulating across social media platforms.
Five injured, one victim suffers fracture and head wounds
A total of 5 people sustained physical injuries during the crash. Emergency medical attention was arranged at Ludhiana's Civil Hospital, where all five victims were transported shortly after the crash. Among the wounded, a passerby named Jatinder suffered severe trauma, including a fractured leg and deep head injuries, necessitating ongoing medical treatment. The other injured commuters were discharged following basic emergency first aid.
Bystanders intercept driver as police begin investigation
The vehicle eventually came to a halt a short distance ahead, allowing nearby residents and witnesses to intercept the driver before he could flee. The crowd detained the individual and promptly notified the police authorities, turning him over to incoming personnel. Observers suspected that the driver might have been operating the vehicle while intoxicated, though official confirmation depends on pending medical tests.
