In an extraordinary display of grit and composure, a 70-year-old couple in Punjab's Moga district successfully fought off three armed robbers who ambushed them on an isolated stretch. The incident unfolded as the elderly husband and wife were travelling from Gholia village toward Kaleke Road within the Bagha Purana area. Rather than capitulating to intimidation, the unarmed pair mounted an aggressive resistance against the assailants.
Ambush on an Isolated Road
Balwinder Singh, locally known as Binder, was en route with his spouse carrying essential paperwork alongside approximately ₹20,000 in cash. A trio of armed youths suddenly blocked their path and initiated a scuffle to snatch the valuables. Refusing to yield, the couple raised an alarm and physically tackled the aggressors. Taken completely off guard by the fierce pushback from two septuagenarians, the robbers quickly lost control of the encounter.
Relentless Pursuit into the Paddy Field
Sensing that their plan had unraveled, two of the culprits sprinted away from the scene. The third suspect attempted to evade capture by diving into an adjacent waterlogged paddy crop. Showing remarkable agility, the elderly woman chased him through the muddy vegetation and pinned him to the ground. Hearing the commotions, nearby villagers rushed to assist the couple and secured the captive until authorities could intervene. A video documenting the elderly pair holding down the perpetrator subsequently gained widespread attention across social networks.
Police Investigation and Raids for Accomplices
Bagha Purana Police Station SHO Janak Raj stated that law enforcement initially learned of the altercation through the circulating digital footage. Officers formally identified the apprehended suspect as Rajdeep Singh, also known as Raju, a resident of Phulewala. The two fugitives have been identified as Gurwinder Singh from Phulewala and an unnamed accomplice hailing from Samadh Bhai.
A criminal case has been registered under Section 379-B against the perpetrators. Police teams are carrying out continuous raids at suspected hideouts to locate the two absconding individuals, with officials affirming that both will be brought into custody shortly.
