A harrowing incident of wildlife conflict has emerged from Rajasthan's Banswara district, where a predatory animal unleashed a violent assault within a residential neighborhood. In Surajkund village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Kushalgarh police station, a 75-year-old elderly woman sitting quietly outside her residence was caught entirely off guard when a panther suddenly pounced on her. The animal repeatedly slashed at the woman's face with its sharp claws, inflicting severe trauma before she could even react or raise an initial defense. The alarming incident has sent shockwaves through the community, creating an atmosphere of intense fear and panic across the locality.
Panther Ambushed 75-Year-Old Kasturi Outside Her Residence
According to local accounts, the victim has been identified as 75-year-old Kasturi, wife of Nathiya Damor, a resident of Surajkund village. She was seated outside her home when the wild cat emerged unexpectedly from the nearby perimeter and charged directly at her. Striking without warning, the panther targeted her head and face, launching multiple fierce swipes with its claws. The brutal assault tore deep lacerations across her face, leaving her heavily drenched in blood. In severe pain and distress, Kasturi screamed desperately for help as the predator continued to overpower her.
Prompt Intervention by Family Members Forced the Predator to Flee
Upon hearing her frantic screams, relatives inside the house along with neighbors from adjoining homes rushed instantly toward the courtyard. Finding itself suddenly confronted by a shouting crowd of villagers, the panther abandoned its prey and bolted from the scene into the surrounding cover. Without losing any precious time, her distressed family members attended to the bleeding elderly victim and arranged immediate transport to the district hospital. Given the extensive facial damage and massive blood loss, her physical condition was deemed critical upon admission, prompting medical personnel to initiate emergency care immediately.
Surgical Intervention Requires Over 50 Stitches to Close Facial Wounds
At the district medical facility, the surgical team acted promptly to manage the victim's critical injuries and stop further bleeding. The deep gashes inflicted by the predator's claws required extensive suturing, with attending physicians having to place more than 50 stitches across her face to repair the lacerated tissue. Following intensive initial treatment and stabilization, Kasturi was transferred to the hospital ward, where she remains admitted under close medical observation while receiving ongoing treatment for her injuries.
Pervasive Fear Grips Surajkund Village Over Threat of Repeat Attacks
Following the brutal ambush, a sense of dread has enveloped the residents of Surajkund and adjoining rural settlements. Villagers are now terrified to step outside their homes, and daily movement across open village paths has dropped drastically out of fear that the roaming panther could strike again. Families are particularly anxious about the safety of vulnerable household members, especially elderly residents and young children. The local population has expressed urgent demands for constant monitoring of wild animal movements near human habitations, emphasizing that preventive security measures are essential to protect innocent lives from recurring wildlife incursions.
