A remarkable shift in grassroots local governance has emerged from Sri Kolayat in the Bikaner district of Rajasthan, where 23-year-old Vishwajit Singh Bhati has assumed leadership of the village council. In the recently concluded panchayat election, eight candidates were actively contesting for the coveted post of sarpanch. Emerging victorious in this multi-cornered contest, Vishwajit secured the seat by an overwhelming margin of 2,134 votes over his rivals. This electoral triumph marks a significant family milestone, returning the mantle of village sarpanch to his household after a prolonged gap of approximately 50 years. Following his win, the young representative has laid out comprehensive development blueprints aimed at upgrading local amenities.
Family Roots and the Drive for Social Work
Vishwajit Singh Bhati has pursued his education up to the final year of a Bachelor of Arts program. His dedication to social welfare and early entry into civic life stems from the guidance of his father, Bhup Singh Bhati, who has maintained an enduring presence in grassroots public work and community assistance. The entire household has a sustained record of involvement in local philanthropic causes. Within the family unit, Vishwajit has an elder sister. He credits this family atmosphere and moral upbringing with instilling a deep commitment to live among everyday citizens and actively resolve the practical difficulties they encounter.
Community Initiatives Undertaken Before the Polls
Long before seeking an elected office, Vishwajit undertook numerous developmental and infrastructure projects across the locality using his personal resources. To illuminate roads and bolster nocturnal security, he funded the installation of 700 streetlights along with 300 electricity poles. In addition to public lighting, he helped roughly 400 local residents secure formal household electricity connections. In a bid to upgrade sanitation standards across rural neighborhoods, an extensive cleanliness drive was executed utilizing 21 JCB earthmoving machines. Alongside sanitation, he supported local heritage and religious sentiments by financing the renovation and refurbishment of 20 neighborhood temples.
Restoration of Kolayat Lake and Safer Transport for Schoolgirls
Having taken office as sarpanch, Vishwajit Singh Bhati has highlighted several immediate focal points for his upcoming tenure. Topping his agenda is a comprehensive and deep clean-up of the globally renowned Kolayat Lake, preserving its historical character and ecological balance. Another pressing concern is facilitating easier access to schooling for local girls, who currently face the arduous task of walking between three and four kilometers each way to attend classes. To alleviate this daily commute and encourage uninterrupted education, he plans to arrange private bus transportation for the students. Vishwajit emphasized that while he had previously aided local communities purely in a personal capacity, his new official position provides a structured platform to systematically address public grievances and foster all-round village advancement.
