Indian ultra runner Amar Singh Dewanda delivered a benchmark performance on the international stage by securing the 23rd position at the IAU 100 KM World Championship held in Spain. Representing the nation while serving in the Indian Air Force, Dewanda completed the grueling 100-kilometer course in 6 hours, 49 minutes, and 17 seconds. Facing elite endurance runners from across the globe, he displayed steady pacing and stamina throughout the demanding contest to finish inside the top 25.
Rewriting the National Milestone by Over 10 Minutes
The defining highlight of Dewanda's race in Spain was the substantial revision of his own previous benchmark. In an event where shaving off even a few seconds demands rigorous conditioning, he improved upon his national record by more than 10 minutes. Braving challenging race conditions, Dewanda executed an evenly paced strategy from the opening stretch all the way to the final kilometer, setting a fresh personal best and lifting India's endurance standards higher.
From Chithwadi Village to Bengaluru Training Base
Hailing from Chithwadi village in rural Jaipur, Rajasthan, Dewanda's achievement stems from years of structured preparation and competitive racing. To prepare for extreme physical demands, he established his primary training base in Bengaluru. Ultra-distance running requires immense physiological capacity along with psychological resilience to counter extreme fatigue, areas in which Dewanda has invested continuous and deliberate effort.
A Proven Track Record in Ultra Endurance
This world championship milestone adds to an already distinguished resume in ultra running. Dewanda previously set a national record in the 24-hour endurance format by covering an astounding distance of 282.881 kilometers. Furthermore, he captured the title of champion at the Asia-Oceania 24-hour Championship. His latest showing over the 100-kilometer distance in Spain cements his position as one of the country's most accomplished endurance athletes.
Balancing Military Duties with Elite Athletics
What sets Dewanda apart is his ability to manage demanding professional commitments alongside world-class athletic training. As an active personnel member of the Indian Air Force, he balances daily military obligations with intense workout regimens and recovery routines. His transition from the rural lanes of Chithwadi to international running circuits serves as a testament to disciplined time management and sustained determination.
