While fresh flowers naturally fade and dry out over time, an innovative display in the national capital is giving their beauty a permanent form through wearable art. At the Grand Expo underway on Baba Kharak Singh Marg in Delhi, vendor Sonu has introduced a distinctive collection of ornaments crafted directly from genuine botanical blossoms. The standout quality of these pieces lies in their ability to lock in the genuine textures and vibrant colours of nature within everyday accessories, transforming real petals into pendants, drops, and earrings that can be worn for years without deteriorating.
Sourcing Wild Blooms from Kashmir and Mountain Valleys
Detailing the materials used in the craft, Sonu explains that the majority of the flora featured in the collection is procured from high-altitude regions. These primarily consist of wildflowers gathered across Kashmir and different mountain belts, alongside selected indigenous Indian varieties. The preparation demands meticulous care, beginning with sorting delicate petals individually. Each blossom is then carefully pressed and dried under controlled conditions, ensuring that the botanical structure flattens smoothly and retains its structural balance for precise shaping into accessories.
Embedding Botanical Forms in Protective Resin
The manufacturing technique blends traditional patience with contemporary resin craft. Once the blooms are dried and pressed, artisans trim them to fit specific metallic and open frames. The prepared botanicals are subsequently set inside clear liquid resin, which hardens into a glass-like protective shield around the delicate petals. This method seals the floral arrangement against air and moisture, keeping its organic details intact. Preparing an adequate catalogue for a single showcase is a slow endeavour, with Sonu noting that stocking up takes roughly 3 to 4 months of continuous preparatory work.
Affordable Pricing with Peak Demand for Earrings
In terms of pricing, the collection remains accessible to budget-conscious shoppers and gift buyers alike. The pieces are largely divided into tiers priced at ₹150, ₹250, and ₹350, with certain intricate creations ranging between ₹350 and ₹400. Among the displayed catalogue, stud and dangling earrings emerge as the clear customer favourite, driven by the unique organic aesthetic that sets them apart from conventional metallic or imitation plastic jewellery. Final costs may still vary slightly depending on design complexity and retail bargaining at the stall.
Relying on National Trade Fairs and Cultural Expos
Sonu brings his creations directly to consumers through prominent retail exhibitions and state-supported artisanal venues across the country. His regular travel schedule includes participating in stalls at Delhi Haat, Surajkund International Crafts Mela, Pragati Maidan, and diverse cultural showcases in different Indian cities. The business relies exclusively on in-person sales at exhibitions rather than digital e-commerce channels. According to Sonu, this craft model yields an estimated profit margin of around 60 percent, depending on production overheads, artistic intricacy, and final discounts offered to visitors.
