A horrifying crime has unfolded in the Housing Board Colony of Rajasthan's Banswara district, where a domestic dispute culminated in a man killing his mother-in-law on Saturday. The suspect, identified as Sanju, who is also locally known as Sonu, allegedly attacked his mother-in-law, Lalita Devi, with a sharp-edged weapon and slit her throat. The victim, Lalita Devi, was the wife of Dvilal. Following the violent attack, the assailant immediately fled the scene, causing widespread panic and grief in the neighborhood. Upon receiving prompt notification of the incident, a police team from the Kotwali police station responded quickly to the crime scene to secure the area and initiate investigation proceedings.
Escalation of the Fatal Altercation
According to preliminary investigations conducted by the responding law enforcement officials, the homicide appears to have been triggered by ongoing marital discord and friction over the wife residing at her maternal home. The accused, a resident of Lodha, was reportedly deeply resentful of his wife's decision to leave his house and stay with her mother. On Saturday, Sonu arrived at his mother-in-law's house in Housing Board Colony and engaged in a fierce argument with Lalita Devi, aggressively demanding to know why she was allowing her daughter to stay there. As the verbal confrontation escalated uncontrollably, Sonu suddenly produced a sharp weapon and dealt a fatal blow to Lalita Devi's neck. The severe injury resulted in her instantaneous death, allowing the suspect to evade immediate capture and flee the premises.
A History of Domestic Violence and Harassment
Providing essential background regarding the circumstances leading up to the tragedy, the victim's daughter, Laxmi, detailed her marital ordeal to the police officers at the scene. Laxmi revealed that she had been married to Sonu for 11 years, and the couple has two children together, a son and a daughter. Despite working as a domestic helper to contribute to the family's income, Laxmi was routinely subjected to unfounded suspicions about her character by her husband. She stated that Sonu was heavily addicted to alcohol and frequently engaged in physical abuse and heated arguments. Exhausted by the recurring domestic violence and continuous mistreatment, Laxmi had left her husband's home to reside with her mother Lalita Devi.
Police Investigation and Search Operations
Immediately following the violent episode, Kotwali Police Station Chief Inspector Nagendra Singh arrived at the location along with a police team to oversee the preliminary investigation. Officers carefully processed the crime scene, collected forensic evidence, and arranged for Lalita Devi's body to be transferred to the local hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination. Inspector Nagendra Singh stated that the police are thoroughly verifying the official statements provided by the daughter, Laxmi, while exploring all angles surrounding the murder. Specialized police units have been deployed to conduct raids across suspected hideouts to track down and apprehend the absconding suspect from Lodha.
