The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has launched a major anti-corruption crackdown in Rajasthan, arresting five North Western Railway (NWR) officials in connection with separate bribery cases. Operating across Jaipur and Bikaner, the agency seized substantial cash amounts during targeted trap operations and subsequent search raids. The sudden arrests have caused widespread shock throughout the regional railway administration.
Jaipur Trap Operation and Cash Seizures
According to a official statement released by the CBI spokesperson, the operation was executed on Thursday, 13 August 2026. Investigators established that an Office Superintendent at the NWR office in Jaipur was demanding bribes to process and approve pending work bills for a private firm located in Navi Mumbai.
Acting on specific intelligence, the agency laid a trap to apprehend the suspects. During the operation, the CBI arrested NWR Jaipur's Assistant Financial Advisor, Office Superintendent, Senior Section Officer, and an employee representing the Navi Mumbai firm. The team recovered Rs 1.46 lakh in bribe money directly from the scene. Follow-up search raids conducted across multiple locations in Jaipur and Delhi yielded an additional Rs 9 lakh in seized cash.
Bikaner Crackdown and Kolkata Connection
In a secondary case executed simultaneously, the investigating agency targeted corruption within the NWR Bikaner division. CBI officers arrested a Senior Section Officer and an Accounts Assistant attached to NWR Bikaner, alongside an employee belonging to a private company based in Kolkata. Agents seized Rs 1.20 lakh in illicit payments during this raid, building upon earlier cash recoveries that brought total trap seizures to two lakh rupees.
Previous CBI Action in Bhilwara NEET Case
This series of arrests follows an earlier major action by the CBI in Bhilwara, Rajasthan, involving the NEET exam paper leak investigation. During that operation, the agency arrested Sandeep, a medical student enrolled at the Rajmata Vijay Raje Scindia Medical College. According to CBI sources, Sandeep was taken into custody and formally arrested after questioning regarding allegations that he acted as a paper solver for the leak syndicate.
