The Veer Balaji Hanuman Temple, located in the Sadar Bazar area of the border city of Barmer, recently witnessed a deeply devotional and joyous celebration of Nandotsav. During this unique festival, women dressed in traditional attire worshipped Lord Krishna embodying the emotions and devotion of Radha. Amidst soulful bhajans and group dances, the entire temple premises transformed into a miniature Braj, radiating immense spiritual fervor and festive cheer.
A Two Century Old Tradition
This long-standing Nandotsav tradition holds immense religious and cultural significance for the local devotees of Barmer. Continuing for approximately two hundred years, generations of families have actively participated in this ritualistic celebration. While the outer format of the event has naturally evolved over the decades, the core sentiments of unyielding faith and devotion remain as strong as ever. Through these festivities, programs centering on the childhood form and birth celebrations of Lord Krishna are joyfully organized.
Immersed in Devotional Songs and Dance
Continuous bhajan-kirtan sessions echo through the Balaji temple, accompanied by women dancing in groups to traditional devotional melodies. Every individual present within the sacred enclosure gets immersed in the vibrant spiritual and cultural atmosphere. The traditional costumes, the melodious hymns, and the synchronized group dances captivate everyone in attendance. According to Sangeeta Rathi of the Veer Balaji Hanuman Temple Committee, the participating women channel the essence of Radha to express their deep love, longing, and absolute surrender toward Lord Krishna through their singing and dancing, creating an unmatched aura of enthusiasm among all worshippers.
