Following the demise of his partner of 42 years, the woman was adorned completely as a traditional bride for her funeral cortege. Meanwhile, the husband dressed himself in wedding attire as a groom to accompany her to the crematorium, leaving bystanders and mourners visibly moved by their profound bond.
A Sacred Bond Honored After 42 Years of Marriage
Amita Joshi, aged 63, the wife of Rajendra Prasad Joshi, a retired assistant administrative officer from the Department of Information and Public Relations, passed away on Thursday night. She had been suffering from kidney disease for some time prior to her death. Remembering their more than four-decade-long journey together, her husband decided that her departure from this world should reflect the honor of a cherished bride. Her body was decorated with bridal attire and traditional adornments, while Rajendra Prasad Joshi wore groom attire to attend the final rites on Friday at the Gangashahar Mokshdham.
Funeral Procession Accompanied by Band and Melodies
On Friday, the funeral procession commenced from their residence situated in the street opposite Bafna School in Gangashahar. Unlike customary solemn departures, this procession moved forward accompanied by a brass band and devotional Ram Naam chanting. The band performed poignant melodies that resonated with themes of love and separation, including classic songs like 'Zindagi ke safar mein guzar jaate hain jo log' and 'Abhi na jao chhodkar, dil abhi bhara nahin.' As the cortege passed through the neighborhood toward the cremation ground, local residents lined the streets to witness the farewell and pay their respects to the departed soul.
A Journey from Srinagar in Uttarakhand to Bikaner
Amita Joshi originally hailed from Srinagar in Uttarakhand and moved to Bikaner after tying the knot with Rajendra Prasad Joshi on February 18, 1984. Recalling their shared life, Joshi expressed that his wife diligently managed every domestic and social duty with dedication and kindness over their 42 years together. He noted that her cheerful and amicable demeanor endeared her to everyone who met her. She is survived by a large and affectionate family, including two sons, two grandsons, and a granddaughter.
