Vote counting is underway for the Kota Municipal Corporation as part of the urban local body elections in Rajasthan. According to data available at 01:26 PM, the Bharatiya Janata Party is leading in 26 wards across the city. The main opposition, Congress, is currently holding the lead in 11 wards, while candidates from other organizations are ahead in 2 wards. Official figures provided by the State Election Commission of Rajasthan confirm these trends. Counting of votes for the 100 ward municipal body commenced at 8:00 AM under tight security arrangements.
Voting Statistics and Turnout Figures
Voting for the Kota Municipal Corporation took place during the second phase of the elections on Friday, September 11, 2026. The municipal area recorded a total turnout of 67.66 percent on polling day. Looking at the state wide voter participation, the first phase of the Rajasthan urban local body polls registered a voter turnout of 76.41 percent, whereas the overall turnout in the second phase stood at 70 percent. Combining both phases, the statewide average turnout reached 73.21 percent.
The Kota Municipal Corporation comprises 100 wards within Kota district, requiring extensive logistical planning. A total of 815 polling booths were set up across the municipality. Among these, 806 booths were designated for up to 1400 voters each, while 9 polling booths catered to over 1400 registered voters.
During the nomination phase, a total of 600 nomination papers were submitted across the 100 wards. Following official scrutiny, 102 nominations were rejected and 25 were dismissed, while 100 candidates formally withdrew their nominations. This left 373 candidates in the final electoral fray to compete for the 100 seats. Notably, zero candidates were elected unopposed, ensuring active contests across every single ward in Kota.
Statewide Local Body Election Structure
The 2026 Rajasthan urban local body elections encompassed 309 municipal bodies across two phases. This total included 10 municipal corporations, 51 municipal councils, and 248 municipalities. The official gazette notification for the election exercise was published on Thursday, August 27, 2026.
Scrutiny of nominations took place on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, and the deadline for withdrawal of candidature was Thursday, September 3, 2026. Phase 1 polling was conducted on September 9, 2026, covering 162 municipal bodies, followed by Phase 2 polling on September 11, 2026, for the remaining 147 bodies. Votes for all 309 local bodies are being counted on September 14, 2026.

Once ward results are finalized, the election process moves to choosing civic leaders. Elections to select Mayors and Chairpersons across the urban local bodies in Rajasthan will take place on September 21, 2026. This will be followed on September 22, 2026, by the elections for Deputy Mayors, Deputy Chairpersons, and Municipal Vice Presidents.
