Indian Army soldier Jitendra Singh Chauhan, serving as an RT Havildar and hailing from Surat Singh Ji Ka Kheda village in the Gangrar tehsil of Rajasthan's Chittorgarh district, passed away while on active deployment in Assam. The news of his sudden demise sent waves of grief throughout his native village and surrounding rural belts. A massive gathering of local residents and young people assembled to pay their respects to the departed soldier. As his mortal remains draped in the national tricolour entered the village borders, the entire region reverberated with slogans honouring his service and memory.
Oxygen Drop and Cardiac Arrest During Deployment
Jitendra Singh Chauhan was stationed with the 629 SATA Battery unit of the Indian Army. While executing his duties in Assam, his physical health deteriorated rapidly when his oxygen levels plummeted unexpectedly. This severe medical complication culminated in a fatal cardiac arrest. Following the completion of mandatory official protocols and post-mortem procedures in Assam on Thursday, his mortal remains were transported to Rajasthan.
Upon reaching the home state, a dedicated military team dispatched from the Nasirabad cantonment escorted the body to the Chittorgarh District Hospital. From there, the military escort accompanied the mortal remains to his ancestral home in Surat Singh Ji Ka Kheda for the final rites.
Tricolour Procession and Funeral with Full Military Honours
Upon the arrival of the soldier in his ancestral village, local youths and village elders organized an extensive tricolour rally along the procession route. Holding flags aloft, mourners raised slogans of national devotion and paid emotional tributes to their fallen hero amidst sombre scenes. Tears welled up in the eyes of everyone present as the casket progressed towards the cremation grounds.
Subsequently, an Indian Army contingent conducted the funeral proceedings with comprehensive military protocols. The armed personnel lowered their ceremonial weapons and sounded the solemn last post bugle call to render the final salute to Chauhan. Surrounded by family members and villagers, he was bid farewell with deep reverence.
Over 22 Years of Dedicated Service Cut Short Ahead of Promotion
Chauhan had enlisted in the Indian Army in June 2004. Over an extensive military career spanning 22 years and 4 months, he served across various demanding border frontiers and harsh terrains across the country. Throughout his long tenure, he maintained steadfast devotion to duty and placed service to the country above all personal considerations.
The most heartbreaking dimension of his passing is that his formal military promotion was scheduled for November 1. He was slated to advance from the rank of Havildar to Naib Subedar, a landmark career advancement eagerly anticipated by his family and relatives. Yet, merely 25 days prior to receiving this hard-earned military honour, his life journey came to an abrupt end.
A Mentor Who Inspired Rural Youths to Join the Armed Forces
According to village residents and acquaintances, Chauhan made it a routine practice to engage with local youths whenever he returned home on annual leave. He actively mentored young boys on physical fitness regimens and motivated them to enlist in the armed forces to serve the motherland. His sudden departure represents a profound loss not only for his grieving family but also for aspiring military hopefuls who regarded him as a direct role model. His unwavering patriotism and dedicated mentorship will remain deeply etched in the collective memory of the region.
