A regular morning ritual turned into a major emergency in Dholpur on Wednesday when a revenue official was swept away by the deep currents of the Chambal River. Mohanlal Gupta had arrived at the riverbank accompanied by his son Chitransh Gupta to perform tarpan offerings for their ancestors. While carrying out the rituals close to the water, Mohanlal Gupta suddenly lost his footing, slipped, and plunged straight into the deep river. Before anyone nearby could pull him out, the rapid water pulled him under, triggering panic among onlookers.
Sudden Loss of Balance Along the Riverbank
According to accounts from the scene, both father and son were engaged in the customary rites near the edge of the river. During the process, Mohanlal Gupta experienced a sudden slip, completely losing his balance. Unable to steady himself against the steep bank, he fell directly into the deeper stretch of the river and disappeared beneath the surface within moments. People present on the riverbank raised an alarm immediately, calling for assistance and notifying the local police about the accident.
