A shocking sequence of nature encounters created widespread panic in Rajasthan's Nagaur district on Thursday, as violent bee swarms struck the same rural community twice within a matter of hours. The disturbing incidents took place in Beri Ki Dhani, located within the Harsore area of Degana subdivision. The tragedy began during the morning hours when 85-year-old local resident Nemaram Kumawat was caught off guard by a multitude of bees outside his dwelling. The elderly man suffered dozens of venomous stings, causing his health to deteriorate rapidly before he ultimately succumbed to the injuries. While the sudden bereavement plunged the household into deep grief, nobody anticipated that an even wider catastrophe awaited them during the last rites.
Chaos Erupts Near Balaji Temple During Last Rites
Following the demise, relatives and neighbors gathered to perform the traditional farewell rites, arranging the funeral procession by the afternoon. Hundreds of mourners joined together to carry the mortal remains toward the local cremation grounds. However, as the solemn gathering passed near the Balaji temple situated on the outskirts of the settlement, a massive swarm descended upon the crowd without warning. Shouts of alarm echoed across the open path as hundreds of people scrambled in utter desperation to escape the descending cloud of insects.
The ferocity of the attack forced mourners to make an agonizing choice, leaving the body behind on the road in order to protect their own lives. In the desperate rush, multiple participants tripped and fell to the ground, becoming easy targets for repeated stings. Several villagers attempted to seek shelter inside nearby structures and behind perimeter walls, while others ran across empty fields. Official tallies indicated that more than 100 villagers sustained injuries during the frantic stampede and prolonged stinging. Recognizing the severity of the situation, family members and unaffected locals rushed the injured to the nearby government community health center for urgent medical attention. The abrupt arrival of such a vast number of patients overwhelmed the health facility, leading to crowded hallways and immediate pressure on the attending medical staff, who had to work flat out to administer injections, soothing ointments, and supportive care.
Among those undergoing medical treatment are Shivraj, Gajendra, Tarachand, Shyamlal, Onkar, Rajuram, Chetan, Gordhan, Bheemraj, Gudar, Pintu, and Pemaram, alongside dozens of other village residents. Many patients experienced acute swelling across their faces, limbs, and torsos, coupled with severe burning pain from the embedded stingers, keeping doctors and nursing personnel occupied throughout the afternoon and evening.
