A five-year-old boy has died after a venomous snake bit him while he was playing on a farm in the Bijolia area near Kota, Rajasthan. Bhagchand Regar was with his family in a field at Salawatia village when the snake struck him, and he later succumbed during treatment at Kota's JK Lon Hospital.
How the accident unfolded
According to details that emerged from the village, the family was busy with farm work in a field at Salawatia when the incident took place. While the adults worked, five-year-old Bhagchand was playing on the raised ridge of the farmland. A venomous snake approached him from behind and bit him without warning. His condition began to deteriorate almost immediately, triggering panic among those present in the field, and the family rushed to get him medical help without any delay.
First Bijolia, then referred to Kota
The family first took Bhagchand to the hospital in Bijolia, where doctors treated him for close to an hour. Despite the initial treatment, his condition remained critical, prompting doctors to refer him to Kota for advanced care. The family then rushed him to JK Lon Hospital in Kota, where doctors immediately began treatment. They had hoped the boy would recover at the better-equipped facility, but he died during the course of treatment. Doctors' efforts to save him proved unsuccessful.
Grief grips the family
News of Bhagchand's death sent the family into deep mourning. A household that had been filled with the child's presence just hours earlier fell silent with grief, and relatives were left inconsolable. Villagers have been visiting the family to offer their condolences.
Why caution is needed during the monsoon
Villagers say that snake sightings in fields and rural areas rise sharply during the monsoon season, and both farm workers and children need to exercise extra caution during this period. They also stressed that in the event of a snakebite, there should be no delay in rushing the victim to the nearest hospital, since prompt treatment is critical to saving a life.
