A mother in Bhilwara district lost both her young daughters within hours after a venomous snake bit them while the family slept in the courtyard of their home in Mokhampura village, under the Raipur police station area.
How the tragedy unfolded
Gyani Devi Gurjar, a resident of Mokhampura, was sleeping in the courtyard of her house along with her two daughters, five-year-old Krishna and two-year-old Bhavna. At some point late at night, a venomous snake reached the spot and bit both children in their sleep. Within a short while, their condition began deteriorating rapidly, alerting the family to the seriousness of what had happened.
Rushed to hospital, but too late for one
The family immediately rushed both girls to the Community Health Centre in Raipur. Doctors who examined them declared two-year-old Bhavna dead on arrival, while five-year-old Krishna remained in critical condition. After providing initial treatment, doctors referred Krishna to the district hospital in Bhilwara for advanced care.
Second daughter dies on the way
As the family set off for Bhilwara with Krishna, she succumbed before the vehicle could reach the district hospital. News of both sisters' deaths within the same night sent shockwaves through the family, and a large number of villagers gathered at the Community Health Centre in Raipur upon learning of the tragedy.
Post-mortem conducted, bodies handed over
The post-mortem examination of both girls was carried out at the Community Health Centre in Raipur in the presence of police. Once the procedure was complete, the bodies were handed over to the family, who brought them back to Mokhampura, where the last rites were performed amid a grief-stricken atmosphere.
