Across Shekhawati and various other regions of Rajasthan, the auspicious festival of Goga Navami is celebrated with deep devotion in memory of the revered folk deity Jaharveer Gogaji. On this significant occasion, rakhis tied by sisters to their brothers during Raksha Bandhan are offered to Gogaji after performing proper rituals and worship. According to popular folklore and traditions, Jaharveer Gogaji was born in Dadrewa village of Churu district on the ninth day of the dark fortnight of the Bhadrapada month. His father was named Jewar Singh and his mother was Bachhal Devi. Based on prevalent legends, Bachhal Devi was blessed with a son through the divine grace of Guru Gorakhnath, and the child was named Gugo.
Rise of Gugo into the Folk Deity Gogaji
In due course of time, this same Gugo came to be revered as Gogaji and was worshipped widely as a folk deity. In the collective consciousness of the common people, he is remembered with immense reverence as Jaharveer, Goga Peer, and the deity of serpents. The 76th Annual Fair Organized in Sikar
Because of this boundless bravery and spirit of public welfare, Gogaji continues to be worshipped with deep reverence as a folk deity across Rajasthan and numerous other regions. The 76th annual fair of Gogaji Maharaj will be organized on Saturday, September 5, at the Gogamedi temple located behind City Dispensary Number-2 in Ward Number 33 of Sikar city. Temple priest Mal Singh Solanki shared details regarding the preparations, stating that arrangements for the grand fair have already commenced.
Religious Rituals and Bhajan Presentations
On September 4, coinciding with the festival of Janmashtami, a devotional satsang will be organized by the women wing during the afternoon. Later in the night, revered saints will present devotional hymns dedicated to Gogaji Maharaj, filling the atmosphere with spiritual fervor. Following this, on September 5, special ornamentation and decoration of Jaharveer Gogaji Maharaj will be performed. The main fair within the temple premises will officially commence at 4 PM in the evening, followed by the grand Mahajot of Gogaji Maharaj at 7:15 PM. A massive gathering of devotees is expected to attend the festivities.
